Default Every newbie ought to try this. Once. Carefully.

I don't think you can actually hurt yourself doing this unless you are the kind of guy who applies a lot of pressure. Don't.
You know how you're supposed to make sure the top of your double edge razor is tightly closed before shaving? You only need to try this once, very carefully, just so you know how it feels and you'll never forget it.
Loosen the knob a bit so the blade is not held rigidly in the razor head. Take a short, delicate stroke across your lathered beard. Feel that chatter? Hear the sound the edge makes on skin and whiskers? It's creepy but that's why you always make sure your blade is securely locked in place.

I received this education myself this morning. No knicks but I kept thinking, why is this so uncomfortable? I didn't figure it out till I rinsed the razor and noticed the doors were sort of flapping around.

I would not recommend doing this as a conscious act.

Every newbie should just read this post and accept the fact that your blades need to be locked in tight. Don't worry, your razor will let you know when it is tightened enough.

I always give my DE a quick once-over before every shave... it only takes a few seconds to double check everything is A-OK.... you never know if the girlfriend/wife might have dropped it by accident or knocked the blade around...

My razors always get a flick when coming out of the rinse water (also upon the initial heating rinse). Any wobble, rattle, or movement means a thorough inspection before getting anywhere near my melon.

I think someone was trying to implement an insidious plot to injure newbs, thereby thinning the wet-shaving herds and lowering the product pricing...

Either that or they may be the same guy who enjoys shaving with an axe...

Call me crazy, but I think a better plan would be to just double-check that your razor is all the way closed/tight before you shave with it. Saying that you should shave without the doors tight just to know what it feels like saying you should shave without any soap or cream once just to understand why the soap/cream is important. It's a very obvious lesson that probably doesn't need to be learned the hard way.

Yeah...I might just take your word for it. I don't need to purposefully slam my toe in a door just to know that I don't want to do it again.
I guess I just like guitars more than razors...

I did that by accident once. Got a couple of semi clean swipes, then one that didn't cut quite right, felt wrong, twisted off to one side, and scraped me a bit on the blade's corner. No blood, but I wouldn't want to repeat it. Can't say I'd notice it again unless the blade twisted or cut me.

    Don't do this ever!
I did it last night by accident and it has taught me a lesson.
When I was asked about the "scratch" on my face, I replied jus wild sex with my wife.

Next came a good laugh and it was forgotten.

I'll take your word for it, and just shave with mine tight.
