    Question Well Shaven Actors

Since I've gotten into shaving, I tend to notice other people's shaves, good and bad. What about actors, many of them have (or seem to have) very close shaves. Why is this?

Do you think television and film actors are taught traditional wetshaving techniques, are shaven by skilled barbers, or is it just all that make-up?

I noticed that Simon Cowell was looking very well shaved on the TV the other night. He has a very thick beard when not on set. I suggested to SWMBO that he must have had a barber shave earlier in the day. She said that he looked so flawless because of the stage make-up. I actually think we were both right.

I blame the stage make-up that covers up the not so close shaves.

They must all (the cleanshaven ones) use DE's and/or straights.

i was thinking the very same thing this morning when i saw a picture of daniel craig - the new bond on the front of a magazine. i assumed that they must have a skilled barber on hand to give him a once over. surely it cant be that hard for him to pop into somewhere like trumper's on the way to work for a shave? i dunno i'll find out, my mum is somehow related to him in a distant way.

Well that makeup can hide a lot and is a lot like pancake mix (I've seen it up close and personal). If a guy has a bad shave it can hide it pretty well.

My very first shave was when I was in high school, to remove my "peach fuzz" prior to application of stage makeup. Our drama teacher insisted that anything but a clean shaven face was unacceptable for application of the pancake type makeup. I tend to think that they shave very well before the application of makeup, but it's quite possible that the makeup artists are the ones doing the shaving.

Did anyone catch the 60 Minutes tribute to Ed Bradley? One of Mr. Bradley's friends told a story of how Hunter S. Thompson shaved Mr. Bradley's head with a straight razor. The gentlemen was asked what condition was Hunter in when he shaved Mr. Bradley's head. He responded that Hunter was in his usual condition.

A few years ago the Bond production crew were filming a scene for "The World Is Not Enough" at my work, as we have a very modern and hi-tech looking building. I got to meet Pierce Brosnan, Judy Dench and Denise Richards .

I got to talk to Pierce for about 10 minutes as I was interviewing one day and waiting for someone at reception, Pierce came in to use the mens room and stopped for a chat with a few folks. It was quite unreal standing next to him fully dressed as James Bond, with the suit and the Omega watch, and the perfect hair and skin. I noticed he'd had an unbelievably good shave, and I assume the make up folks had worked some magic. Though even really close up (like about 2 feet away) it didn't look like he was wearing much if any make-up, it just looked like he'd had a great barber working on him. I wasn't into real wetshaving then so I didn't know to ask.

He (as James Bond) was on the advertising for a top of the line Phillips electric razor (which I bought and don't use ) but I'm damn sure that's not what he'd used that day!

Sadly I didn't get to meet Denise Richards quite so close up, but she looked pretty good too.

That's really too bad, I'm sure you could have checked out here shaving techniques and offered her some ideas on how to improve her shave, but you'd have to get real close.

Some actors refused to wear make-up and really didn't need to. Perhaps PB is one of them.
