Metalwax cleaner ate the nickel plating?

I soaked my '47 SS in this cleaner for a day and a half, checking it every three hours as the maker told me on the phone. It's nice and shiny now, but has a kind of pinky-brown tint. Do you think the cleaner ate the plating, or is this something a good polish will remove/improve?

I don't know about the particular cleaner you used, but I do know that automotive chrome polish will wear a razor's plating thin. Any time I've seen thinned nickel plating though, the razor had a yellowish tint to it from the brass showing through. I'd only use a mild polishing agent to see if the razor's color can be improved. A lot of B&B members swear by Maas polish. I prefer Flitz polish, which I feel is milder. It's available at many boating stores and some hardware stores.

I had an incident where I soaked a hoffritz in some shower cleaner/soap scum stuff and it ended up oxidizing the neck black. I don't know if there is a way to ever get it back.
