    Default Merkur HD Question

Hey all, I just got my Merkur HD, had a pretty good lather and shave, but was wondering how much I should tighten the blade - I don't want to crack it, how much pressure will it take? This was one area that I have not been able to find any information on in B&B.

Thanks in advance for all the responses!

I usually tighten my razors just enough so that the blade is snug...not loose at all. Over-tightening is not advised.

I always tighten it as much as I can. I don't think the blade will break.

Blade won't break, but your razor won't like over-tightening. just twist until blade is firmly locked, more is unnecessary.

the blade won't break.. the razor, maybe, but i don't see you ever using enough pressure with just your fingers. maybe if you were using a vise grip and a pipe wrench. i just get mine snug because that's all it needs.

The way Ive heard it explained: as tight as you can, using only the thumb and forefinger of each hand to grip the razor. Pretty hard to over tighten it that way.

I agree with previous posters I doubt with human hands you can over tighten. The blade in mine(derby) looks fairly stressed though.
