    Default A Nightmare!

I woke up. LATE!!! I had planned to take the day off in order to do my mother a favor and take her to a job interview she had at 2:00PM. I woke up at 10:00 AM. She lives 1 hour away and I was a mess.

I quickly got up, packed a fresh set of clothes, my Gillette Tech, my shaving brush, my Proraso and my aftershave and ran out the door.

I arrived at my parents house at 11:30AM. I said my hellos and jumped into the shower. I get out and prepare my shaving cream...when what to my wondering eyes should appear but absolutely no razors blades - oh my! OH DEAR!

A few moths beforehand I had PIF'd some razor blades to my father, who out of fear of bleeding, has not used them at all. I looked for them to no avail. I called my father at work to see where he had them. His answer was "Son, I don't know."

Well - darn - what now? I looked for another 6 min and my lather was getting colder by the minute and my face was drying. My mom then hands me a Mach 3!!!

With the interview coming up, I couldn't waste anymore time and was forced to shave with the Mach 3. At first, I said what the hell - I've done this before but I was in for a shock. I began the usual prep.

After the very first swipe I could actually feel the tugging of the hair as it was hacked out my face. It was not smooth at all. Where was the smooth, quick shaves I remember from high school? Not here! By the time the yank and hack session was over, I had an ok shave but my face was redder than a tomato! <- Much more than that!

I put on some aftershave and rubbed ice on my face but the redness didn't go away until after a few hours. Almost 2 days have gone by and I have a couple of ingrown hairs. I really did miss the smooth effortless shave of a DE.

Moral of the story: More than one. 1) Always have a travel kit handy complete with all the shaving supplies you need and 2) Be grateful for what you have because you don't how good you have it until it's gone.

    Thanks for reading my story.

    I feel for you...!!

I remember 2 years ago getting caught out..and being forced to use a Mach 3. The actual shave was ok...but by the evening..I could see 2 razor bumps appearing on my right cheek!

A Mach 3 has never set foot in my house again!

Ps: I've found a bit of Sudocreme on the odd razor bump usually does the trick!

Good story, but I'm somewhat confused.

If she had the interview, and you had the day off, why not just go a day without shaving?

Why? Because I wanted to look presentable. I wasn't going to be waiting in the car.

I'm really going to have to try a mach3 again. I used them for 6 months with proper prep and got decent shaves... but that was almost two years ago.

a fathers disregard to a PIF

    mach 3s don't have feet

but there is a hot receptionist that you have to impress at the interview

I have an old Mach 3 stashed away, not quite under glass, but the warning sign says "Only open if there has been a neuclear attack and all the STR8's are melted or the DE blades contaminated."

I threw my M 3 away as soon as I got my first Super Speed. Always have to keep extra blades around.

Well I'm not at DEs yet, currently Bic Disposables. Two days without shaving on the weekend = days my skin can rest and heal.

Lesson Learned: Two is one, one is none. For the analytical types this will make no sense whatsoever, but hey, I'm an English major. What this means is you should always count on 1 being broke, unavailable or unusable so you pack 2 to get 1 usable. This was contingency planning 101 from my old life as a GI

Can't say, I was never in the Army (USAF). What I do know is that if you brought 2 of every really important widget, occassionally one would get lost or damaged (one of the beauties of the low bidder system). Worse case, both of your widgets worked fine and you ended up with an extra. Your extra could then be used to haggle with folks who needed a widget because they forgot the one they had and would trade really neat stuff to borrow your extra important widget. That was unconventional logisitics 101 (aka. Scrounging)

We have the same thing in the Army.
