Is the American Success a good first STR8?

I support the right to arm bears!
From what people say a 5/8 - 6/8 would be a good size. This one I believe is 5/8 and took a very sharp edge. It needs to be stropped though.

Ambrose, you should charge more for your stuff and use the proceeds to get your camera focus fixed.

The American Success straight arrived today (damn that's fast) and true to your word, it arrived sharp as the devil himself.
Having used a "Magic" brand disposable-blade straight for the past year and a half, I'm pretty excited to finally have a REAL straight razor. Thanx for the great deal and for giving extra attention to sharpening/honing it in advance.
Here's a pic..
(and a few more pics are in my B&B gallery here)

Wow that was fast, Beautiful pics BTW much better than the ones I had.
I will be making custom scales soon I would be glad to put that blade in a new set for you. I told you this one took a super sharp edge, I like the way you said it " it arrived sharp as the devil himself "
You should have seen this razor when I got it. It had a fair amount of rust and was dull.
Im getting into restoring straights and custom scales. Lets hope I score some new stuff this weekend. - Cheers

heh. thanx. You should see what a little color adjustment in Photoshop can do http://twitpic.com/4do52
Thinking now that maybe I should post a short tutorial on how to do some basic fine-tuning w/Photoshop.
I don't know much about straight razors as far as what new scales would do for it -- but I really don't have an issue w/them as they are. There's a small nick on one side, but that's not going to affect shaving with it and I'm not nearly picky enough to be bothered by it :)
I bought this as my "starter blade", so I can learn honing/stropping, proper care, usage, maintenance, etc. on something that I wouldn't be absolutely crushed if it got damaged in some way (no offense to your handiwork, though, you've done a damned fine job).
Like I said - you've done a damned fine job and I really couldn't be happier. I always liked that quote and somehow "razor sharp" seemed a little.. I dunno, too obvious? ;)
To anyone thinking of buying from Ambrose -- I'll do the ebay-style review :
"A++ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. WOULD BUY FROM AGAIN!!11ELEVENTYONE!"
Good luck on that, man. I'd love to see what you come up with. You've got some skills, sir. I might tap your shoulder for a pointer or two if/when I get into restoring. I'm not sure if I have it in me to do it, but it sure sounds fun.
Anyway - thanx again, and take care :)
I would be happy to help, Ive spent over 40 hrs learning about different abrasives to restore and polish.
Everything from their cutting ability to the consistency between crystals. Ive got it down to about 30 - 45 from rusty to a mirror polish. Honing takes me about the same 30-45 min.
I have also spent a ton of hrs and help from other straight shavers on honing. Henry aka "Professor chaos" Thank you sir for everything.
I would recommend signing up over at straight razor place. I have the same username there.
Ill let you know if I do score anything this weekend.
