Merkur slant gold or chrome?

Hi All

I know I want an HD slant but I haven't yet decided between the chrome and the gold finishes. I was leaning toward the gold but then I read a post saying that the merkur gold plating isn't that great.

Any advice appreciated

Great question because I'm going through the same dilemma.

GOLD.

Here's why I vote for the GOLD.

1. Looks classier
2. Gold only increases in value.
3. More Unique
4. If you don't like it, higher resale value.

And More Importantly

5.It is a lot easier to tell you have the blade alignment right when lining up the blade to make sure the long edges of the blade are parallel with the long edges of the cap and even on both sides.

5 is most important. I have the hardest time getting the blade to align correctly with my chrome slant...my eyes hurt after a while!

Which is why I like blades with writing or some markings on them. I turn the razor upside down and check. If the writing is at an angle or, pardon the pun, slanted, I know I still have some adjustments to do.

It is much easier in Gold than in Chrome, which is why MERKUR should do a GOLD SLANT BAR BARBER POLE RAZOR!!!

My 37 is a G and I don't have any issues with the gold plating. The main reason I choose the gold version is that the plating itself had less flaws than my chrome merkurs. I bought mine in a brick & mortar store just to be able to see for myself before the purchase.

I've got a gold slant. Has a couple plating voids where the screw attaches to the head and where the base is attached to the handle right under the head. I put some gold paint on them just to seal it hoping that it wouldn't spread. Going on almost 2 years now and it's still holding. I thought I read that they add some cobalt to the gold making the plating a bit more durable. Maybe someone can confirm that too.

I have the Merkur 34G HD and the gold plating looks fine to me. I am glad I bought the gold. It looks good to me. However the 39C looks nice to me too. it would be cool if they came out with a 39M.

my next razor is going to be a slant. i have 7 razors now and they're all chrome/silver/nickel or whatever and I want the gold slant just to have something different.
