    Default Shaping facial hair

Hi guys .... yesterday had great BBS .... however want to grow my goatee again but it was nearly impossible to shape it using Merkur Slant.... so I took Gillette Fusion Power and tried that single blade which purpose is to shape facial hair...however the feeling was terrible.... I was not able to shave with it (the weight was terrible.....I mean I thought I did not have anything in my hand at all....since using Slant I like the razor to be HD ) .... so how do you shape your facial hair (if you do so)? please help me

btw ... sorry for bad topic I think it should be 'Shapeing'..not sure though

Personally, I use a straight to shape my facial hair. That is what got me into straights in the first place.

It's a bit easier to shape with an HD or something that doesn't have the slanted blade...

although I imagine a straight is even easier

I also use my M3 every now and then when my sideburns or goatee get out of shape, though for my dad-to-day shaving my Futur does seem to do the trick... hmm, guess its another one of those YMMV things.

I use a high powered CO2 laser. There is some collateral damage, though.

Scotto .... you know I was wondering whether in the future people would prefer to shave using some kind of laser ....

If the mach 3 doesn't do the trick, let me know. I've got a spare straight or two that I'd be willing to let go for around $30 pre-honed.

I should have them for a while. I'm not actively trying to sell them, they just sit on the back of my shelf in the bathroom, so they might as well go to a good home if you are interested. As I recall, they are spike points, which I don't like so well for shaving (I prefer round or french points for shaving), but are ideal for beard and moustache shaping.

You might want to try a Gillette Tech. It is a very precise and agile instrument, and inexpensive!

I suggest growing your beard out over your entire face for several weeks before you shape it. It will be much easier that way.

It may be worth considering a Dovo Shavette, or a Feather.

Straights are great for shaping, but I see the maintenance of a traditional straight to be a bit high just to use it as a shaping tool.

I haven't worn a beard in the last few years other than a full beard that I didn't have to trim. Now, I use my Slant (daily razor) on my sideburns and touch them up once a week or so with my Mach 3. I also still have a Norelco Beard trimmer around that was very helpful in managing the length of sideburns and my Van Dyke beard when I wore it. IMO it is much harder to trim facial hair with a DE, I'd use a more modern razor if it works for you and pick up a beard trimmer if you dont' have one, it much easier than scissors and loads better.

Hmmm... I've sported a goatie for over a decade and have had no problems using any of my DE's to help shape it.

If you don't mind my asking, is there a particular razor or type of razor that does this better than others? I'm asking because I'm thinking of cutting back my almost full face beard to a goatee or van dyke shape. Then I'll need to maintain it, which I haven't had to do in years. I'm enjoying wet shaving so much that I want more area to shave. Thanks.

I think all of my DE's have done an equally good job at shaping my goatie -- however, I currently prefer my Slim Adjustable, short handled Super Adjustable, Tech, and Super Speed. I also use an electric trimmer to keep the goatie quite short, so that may be why I'm having such good luck shaping it.

As my wife and I are expecting our 1st child in May, I am planning to go clean shaven for a bit so as not to prickle the baby! I've not seen my chin and upper lip for over a decade, and both my wife and I will morn the loss -- however, it is a sacrifice I am willing to make (for a short time). I will grow it back... I will... I will!!!!

Oh well... more to shave = more fun!!!
