    Default Newbie needs your opinion

    Hey Lads,

I'm new to the forum and new to using a straight. I picked up a used one on Ebay before I drop a bundle on a Dovo or the like. I picked up a 5/8" "BEAU BRUMMEL (WERK SOLINGEN, GERMANY)" BLADED RAZOR. The seller said that the edge was excellent - though well used. Will this suffice for a newbie to learn with or should I keep looking?

Despite what the seller said, you should consider having any razor from Ebay honed by a reputable honemeister. There is a list of them here:

    Honemeisters? Here's a list...

You can't go wrong with any of the guys listed, and many of them are very active on this board, so you can always ask questions.

    Welcome to B&B!

I would not recommend that razor to anyone. Never mind the edge - the blade looks warped to me. The spine shouldn't slope like that.

I dont know if the spine is sloped, might be an optical illusion, but hone wear for sure

    Thanks Lads,

General consensus seems to be to pass on it. Unfortunately I did bid and win although I didn't pay much. I guess I'll just keep looking.

    Thanks

Keep it for honing practice once you buy a hone. it would probably still shave you just fine if you send it out to a honemeister. Beau Brummels are pretty good razors and I think made from the same steel or factory as dubl ducks.
post on the bst board for a shave ready razor, your find some good will and nice razors there, plus you'll need a second anyways.
