    Talking Question about Merkur HD

After reading an earlier post from today about a vintage gillete, i was wondering if the head of the merkur hd should be screwed down firmly? My HD came without instructions so i am at a loss, does the tightness of the blade against the head affect the characteristics of the shave?

Merkurs have a turning bottom that screws in the top piece..

    Blade should be placed properly

Then unable to be turned when completely tight

I turn the srew until it can turn no more. You want the blade to be held firmly

Finger tight, enough so that it won't move. A loose blade is a good way to help keep the styptic people in business!

Great way to describe it...You want it tight but not so tight that you have to struggle to release it or tighen it. Just tighten it up firmly and it will be fine.

You don't need to tighten it any more than when it hits its first stop. I only use two fingers to tighten my HD.

Finger tight or firm tightness is good. You don't want to turn it with a vice or anything and strip the screw inside because your razor will be ruined.

One more thing about the HD, the blade is supposed to bend like that.
