    Default Mama Bear's Bath Soaps

Since the winter season is rapidly approaching, I was thinking about ordering some glycerine based soaps from Mama Bear to deal with the slightly dry skin I've had this past week.

For those of you that have tried the bath soaps and cold process soaps, what are your favorites?

I am going to go ahead and jump in here... (have I ever hesitated? )

I change my bath products over this time of year also.. to me it is simple habit. I have enough soaps that I know well to know which bar to grab every day for what my skin needs. This is not true for most folks and it helps to know a little bit about what some of the soaps do you for you.

I carry what I term 'both types' of bath soaps. Glycerin based and CP Soap.

Glycerin is a very, very gentle soap. It is highly recommended for babies when it has no colorants or fragrance added. However, I add fragrance and colouring to the soaps that I make for us grown ups. It is gentle and moisturizing and I find it is too much so for the summer time. Then I want a soap that will clean off the sweat and dirt. This is not as much of an issue in the winter (for those of us in the Northern States anyway) and in the winter I really enjoy a gentle soap with fragrance in it.. (I tend towards long baths)

CP soaps are much more cleansing then glycerin soaps and can also be gentle to the skin providing that you are using a good quality handmade soap with good oils and the glycerin still in it. The commercial soaps remove the glycerin and add lathering detergents to the bar that are detrimental to the skin. Home made soaps do not. There are degrees of moisturizing with these soaps that are determined by how much they have been super fatted and what oils were used in the making of the soap. Personally, I love the tallow and milk soaps but I also sell a line of vegetable based soaps (veggy oils) that are just terrific! Most of these soaps will be superfatted from 3% to 9% with the exception of the 100% coconut oil which is superfatted at 20%. This is the percentage of extra oils that have been added to the soap when it is made.

I have my favorites and am hesitant to make recommendations because what works for me may not work for someone else. The best advise I have for you is to know your skin and know what it likes.. Soaps are like good wines... they are all wonderful, but different ones are nicer at different times..

I am wonderfully amazed that so many gentlemen realize that they need a change in soap this time of year. You've all come a long way! Kudos to you all!!!!

Thanks for the advice Sue. I think I'll order a pure glycerine and a cold process and decide. I'm sending you an email in preparation for my order.

I ordered a CP soap from Mama Bear and it was of top quality. Very moisturative, clean smelling, and wonderful thick lather. Gentle on the skin
