Default I'm so worry that my DE blades are taken away at airport

    Hey Guys,

I have 4 questions to ask:

I was thinking about going to travel in the near future by going to Cyprus to visit my relative and I will give a try to pack my merkur 34c or 38c in a suitcase but it should no problem but I'm so worry my DE blades are take away at the airport. I don't know what to do. I have no problem taking my Mach 3 Turbo razor with mach 3 turbo on cartridge in a suitcase. Always in a suitcase. That was good.

    1. How I was supposed to get my DE blades to pack in a suitecase not carry on bags. Should I pack the DE blades in a suitcase separate from Merkur DE razors? Oh Jezz, I'm so nervous about this.

    2. Do you have any experience about taking your blades in a suitcase or have your DE blades has been taking?

    3. Do the employees at the airport are accepted the DE blades in a suitcase or they have to check it?

    4. What is the difference between Carry on and checked? does that means carry on is for carry on bag or suitcase? I'm not sure.

    Help me! Help me!

You can put your Mach3 and cartridges in your carry-on bag. You can put your DE razor in your carry-on bag. Your DE razors blades will have to go in your checked luggage. A carry-on bag is with you in the flight compartment. A checked bag goes in the cargo hold inside the plane.

    Mark,

Thanks for telling me but I'm kinda confused now. Do you think should I put my Merkur razor and DE blades are pack in a suitcase/luggage? I mean the razors is with out the blades itself. Right?

You can take your razor, without a blade, with you on the plane (in a carry-on bag).
Your razor blades have to go into your checked-in luggage.
Of course you can also put your razor in your checked-in luggage.

The only thing you can not take with you on the plane in your carry-on luggage are your razor blades.

Chris, Mark and Jan are absolutely correct. The DE razor itself sans blade (or a cartridge razor and cartridges) can go into a bag you carry into the passenger compartment, but DE or SE blades must be in checked (going into the plane's cargo hold) baggage.

I always bring a cartridge razor when I fly.
I don't think it's worth the extra trouble to fly with a DE and have to worry about the blades.

Here's a generic answer I think makes sense: if it's sharp and can easily cause injury it's not allowed within easy reach.

That means DE blades, knives, swords, extreme wit, etc. need to be stuck under the plane.

If you're so worried about the razor blades, what I do when I am just taking carry on luggage is to mail a pack of blades to my destination.
(Hotel, realatives) never had a problem.

Bring an extra parka on the trip to Vegas. I understand that cargo holds can be quite cold, even in July.

Yes, but only to keep my precious DEs safe from grubby hands.

As I may have been lucky, but have flown probably twenty or so times with my DE in my carry-on luggage and have yet to have anyone ask. The destinations have primarily been to the Southeast not that I know if this makes a difference.

Again, I may have just been lucky.

I've heard of folks getting their straights stolen from them in their check-in so I don't travel with a straight. For DEs I will plop a few in my check-in and a few in my cary-on just for fun. The only time I was stopped is when my carry-on consisted of nearly 200 various razors from a "hunting trip"... that time I made sure not to have any blades with me.

FYI, xrays can't penetrate the old school metal blade banks (or any metal for that matter).

On a recent flight in Australia,I was unable to have fishing lures in my carry on luggage.:rolleyes, but they served me a scotch and coke in a glass.

    Default Tsa

I recently travelled home to the states on R&R leave. When coming back I knew I had a good supply of Derbys waiting for me in Iraq so I didn't pack any DE blades in either bag. Good thing because, they took so long to process me through the ticket counter line because I didn't have enough time to check a bag and had to carry on the one with my DE razors. I had to laugh when they went through the machine... I heard one of the TSA people say "Oh... he's carrying one of them straight razors... well that's okay." I quickly responded "actually that's two double edged safety razors and there are NO blades in there". I didn't want some other passenger to get the wrong idea about straight razors.
