Default Any advice before first Injector shave?

RAD induced purchase of 1942 Schick Injector with bakelite handle and fairly beat up case. The razor cleaned up pretty well. Wife sent my to get cornstarch, so I just naturally picked up some injector blades....

I can't resist the idea of shaving with this thing...anything I should look out for?

Did you get Schick blades? If so, you should be good to go.

Yep, Schick blades. It kind of frosted me to see that seven blades were going to run me as much as 50 DE blades.

Oh well...hopefully I won't like the shave too much!

They are pricey. If you stick with it, the Ted Pella blades are more reasonable. I think you get 20 for $5 or so

I've had one for a long time now and only use it occasionally. It gives a fine shave, which is why I still use it, but not so much. It is directly related to the price of blades. Too much, though those Pella's would be the way to go if you really liked it and needed to do it all the time. I may have to buy some when I allegedly put together my 200 blade Pella SE order. Anyway, injector away, hope you like it, too.

Uh-oh. Four pass shave, VDH soap, treated it like a Tech from that standpoint. The end result is outstanding, faceturbatingly good BBS. That small head profile let me maneuver around some problem areas that give me trouble with DE razors.

It was almost too whippy, it's so light. The Burt's Bees bay rum balm burned, but no more so then when I use my beloved Red Tip SS.

It was a truly great shave from an end result standpoint, but using that thing was very reminiscent of using a cartridge razor, it felt like a twin blade disposable in use.

I'm really torn now. I can tell I don't enjoy using the Injector as much as I do a Gillette DE, but it works really, really well for me.

I'll have to give it a few days to think this one over...

Similar story but found it very hard to clean, so many dirt traps. Shaving experience was more like a cartridge razor than a DE, which encouraged me to speed up and therefore nick myself.

It sounds like you have a Schick "E" model with a Bakelite handle. It is capable of a very close, quick shave. I use one and like it best of the Injectors I have tried.
