    Default Blade Banks

I've taken an interest in some pics of Blade Banks that people have posted here. Is this some from of AD that I'm not aware of - collecting spent blades?? I have been putting them into the back side of the case they come in for safe keeping before putting them in the garbage. But is there a SBAD (spent blade acquisition disorder) that I have somehow not contracted yet??

Why is it that people go out of their way to create bins for keeping spent baldes??

    What have I been missing??

Some of the blades that I use do not come in a case so I need a place to dispose of them in a safe way. A blade bank does just that.

Here's a fun thread on blade banks

I keep empty blade cases specifically for cramming used blades into. The Gillette style cases will take about 30 blades. Wilkinson Sword plastic cases can hold 50 used blades, most of which are in the part the new blades came out of. A couple of those will hold a 100 pack of used Derby's.

I can also see using empty dispensers to store used blades while travelling.

+1... only I haven't made the bank just yet so they're in plastic right now

I use empty drug bottles for the blades, but I keep a small ($.99) blade bank on my shaving shelf just for show. Just another AD to work off.

I use a 35mm film container. It holds a bunch, and you can probably get a bagful free if you ask nicely at the photo counter.

Why on earth would you pay $1 for a blade bank?

The best blade bank is thirdeye's. I use it and I am sure it will take a lifetime to fill it.

To those recycling the blades, stop. You are supposed to throw razor blades in the trash (after you put them in a safe container). Don't believe me? Contact your local municipal department.

It's true! First, I just used the Personna dispensers...Then I built a blade bank from a soup can, painted it and let the kids decorate it.

Now, I find myself checking banks on Ebay, and I'll see an old piggy bank or some odd container at a thrift shop and think, "I could put blades in that...."

    Never mind the fact that:

    • It might well take more years than I have left to fill the soup can
    • Buying a blade bank might be all it takes to make my wife insist that I seek counseling
    • If I bought or made a nice one, she'd make me keep it under the sink in the cupboard anyway
    • She's already suspicious that I want to put in a medicine cabinet just so I can put a blade disposal hole in it
    • She's right about the medicine cabinet

Hey, maybe I can tell the Feds I need bailout money for my "bank", and the'll send some dough my way...

Funny - but nowhere near as creative as you need to be .

Now, if you could pool the blades from several different users into one bank, and divide the blades into theoretical 'parts', and then develop a mathematical formula to assign the parts of certain blades to different traunches...

Well, the cost of making one is 33 cents for the can plus your time. My time spent on blade bank construction would be worth way more than 66 cents, so I did the math and bought one.

Others of course may value their time differently and conclude that DIY is the way to go. To each their own.

+1 (and then some). The convenience, plus the number of blades the things hold, make it well worth the buck. And (not addressed to Stubblefield), I do toss it in the recycling: there are far sharper objects that end up in that bin than a bunch of used blades safely ensconced in that tin. (Ever cut yourself on a tin-can lid?)

Glued one of Baby's empty milk tins shut, made a slit in the bottom, repainted it and that's my blade bank. Hidden away from baby of course :) I reckon it'll take oh about 10 years before that one fills up.

I would think too, that if you do have the time you really should try your hand at making one. DIY projects are a lot of fun, and while I did save some time by purchasing a BB the one I did get is far more boring than the ones I have seen posted up.

    Guess I should decorate it.
