    Default DE blade break in???

Here's an odd one...I am 3rd blade into a pack of Swedes and just finished up a shave (yes Im a night shaver). This was my second shave with this blade and I noticed that the 2nd shave has been the best shave out of this pack. In the prior 2 blades the 3rd and 4th were better than the 1st as well. I dont normally go for a 5th but with the 4th beating the 1st I did with this pack and found the 5th the same as the first, and that wasnt too good.

So...do these blades break in and smooth out, or is my skin sensitive to a too sharp blade?

I have found that I dont love the first shave out of a Feather or a Persona either...a Derby or a Dorco, however, both seem to be good 1-4.

My swedes shave a little smoother on the 2nd or 3rd shave for me too.
I feel you on the 1st feather shave, I have to take it slow.

Yep . . . This is kind of what makes things fun. Different blades have different characteristics. I've stocked up on Derby but even with them . . . day two for me is better than day one. Feathers work fine for me . . . again after day one but somehow seem to dull faster than other blades. . . . and so on . . .

and so we try them and different shaving soap or cream and different prep and aftershave and and and

We all need more and in our lives . . Yes?

The only blades that do work well for me on the first shave are Feathers. All others are much better on the 2nd and 3rd shave.

Hey glad this isn't just me!

I find Derbys are good to go, but Swedes need a shave to bring them down to a more acceptable level of aggressiveness.

I give them to my kids to play with first. Prep 'em up for me.

If the first shave with a particular blades is too much have you ever considered "corking" your blades. Doing so will help smooth the blade and "dull" it a little to take the first shave edge off. Its a simple process of running your blade over a wine cork once or twice. Give it a try and you might not have to suffer on your first shave with a new blade.
