Title says it all, I'm looking for one of these. Any recommendations?

    Thanks all!

I'm very happy with my Slik mini-tripod, which I've had for several years. It's as solid as a full-size tripod. I've also had my eye on the newer flexible thingies from Gorillapod and Sunpak (but you have to be sure that the model you choose can handle the weight of your camera + lens).

    Default If you're handy...

Head over to Instructables.com and do a search for "tripod". They ave tons of plans, and I'm sure you may even have most of the parts laying arround.

    Or, use this link:

(no java at work, so I can't insert a link)...

If you're using a DSLR, have a look at the Velbon Ultra Luxi...to get even more compact option for one of their ball heads, but then you're at nearly $200.

If something smaller than an SLR, look at the Slik Sprint models.

A sturdy travelling tripod's never as cheap as a bulkier, more supportive tripod, but tripods left at home or in the hotel are the least supportive of all.

I picked up a decent table top tripod at Best Buy for $14.

+1. Many variables come into play when buying a tripod. How small? What type of camera? There are some pretty cool ones out there these days...

Have you been to Robert's. That is a pretty nice shop. The one at 255 S. Meridian St. has a huge selection and can supply camera AD's for a long time.

The one at 12225 N. Meridian St. in Carmel is a bit smaller, but I think the employees are a little more helpful. Either one is great. This has become one of the mandatory stops when I go to Indy.
