I've got a fossil bag I got at Macy's that I get a bunch of comments on. Here's a picture of me wearing it while in DC.

Half the time I don't even want to know.
To go back on track though, Mountain Equipment Co-op is a good brand of bag. Unfortunately, I think they're only available in Canada. I still have a backpack that survived most of college, a crippling motorcycle accident, trips through Europe, Mexico, Maui and the Caribbean and regular use since. I've had that bag for about eight years I think and it still looks and functions as new.
Limecat can never die!!! Unless he gets curious.
Eagle Creek has some offerings that are moderately priced and not overly "tactical" looking. My bag appears to be constructed of a different material and it has a shoulder strap "attachment" (I don't know what you call it) which though not padded does help keep the straps from digging in if you have a load. It is similar to the Compass/Guide Bag/Simple Pouch.

dpm802, my Wife has a couple of those Healthy Back bags from many years back. Hers were the nylon version. Well thought out and quality construction, though the nylon will begin to show a bit of wear.
Johnny_Z, heh-heh you better watch those guys over on the edcforums, they'll have you looking like a CIA operative, and a key-ring that will require suspenders and a belt to keep your pants up.![]()
I think the best bags that I've ever seen/used are made by the following two companies:
Tom Bihn http://www.tombihn.com/
and
Red Oxx http://www.redoxx.com/
Both companies make bags that fit the "man-purse" niche.

Brian

Real nice Masculine Bags for various uses. Hey, Indiana Jones is NO sissy boy.
Keys (pocket)
Cell Phone (pocket)
Knife (pocket)
books (backpack)
Pipe (get a case and pocket it or put in the backpack with the books)
Lighter (pocket)
tobacco (see pipe)
pipe smoking "tools" (Been smoking a pipe for about 2 years and have yet to use anything but a carpenters nail. a pipe cleaner, and vodka)
No need for "Murse", Fanny Pack, Vest with 200 pockets. All that stuff can fit in slacks or jeans, I carry the same stuff. Although I don't usually take a pipe around with me but I have room if I wanted too (I smoke at home when relaxing). The only thing you need is a backpack for your books, or hand carry them.
I beet John Wayne and Lee Marvin never had a man bag.![]()

Anyone have a link for where one could find this bag? looks very useful.
I actually have a couple different bags that I carry on a regular basis, depending on what I "need".
For work I carry a County Comm XL Bail Out Bag. I have my laptop, some "get home" supplies if, for whatever reason I have to walk home, and a couple other goodies. Even has a hidden pocket for my carry piece!
For everyday stuff, or when I don't need my laptop, I carry a Maxpedition Colossus. Again, nice bag, I've got everyday needs in it (first aid kit, meds, water bottle, batteries, etc) and again, it has a special pocket for a gun if, for whatever reason I can't keep it on my waist.

You don't really need a bag to carry all of that stuff, just put it all in your car.![]()
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

"A great life isn't about great, huge things; it's about small things that make a big difference"-- Ikea Catalog
And here, for everyone's perusal, is a post that I made on another board:
If you're shopping for a Maxpedition bag, or anything similar, check and see if eBags.com carries it. Then, go to Google Shopping and see if you can find the same bag for less money. Then note that eBags offers a 110% price match guarantee.
For example, eBags wants $124.99 for a Maxpedition Last Resort bag in khaki. A quick Google pointed me to Zazuh.com, which had the same bag for $77.79. 110% of the price difference is $51.92.
So, here's what you do. Place your order with eBags, then go directly to the customer service chat on their website. Tell them that you've found a better price, and you'd like to take advantage of their price match guarantee. You'll need to give them your order number, and the URL of the better price. The rep will verify that it's the same bag (and, yes, it has to be the same color!), and then apply a credit to your credit card. Thus, you get your Last Resort bag for $73.07 (eBags usually has free shipping). You'll also get a coupon for $10 off your next order e-mailed to you.
Note that you might want to use a "throw away" e-mail address when ordering from eBags, as they're constantly running specials and wanna let you know about them!
