    Default Milord question

    G'day fellas,
I'd like some help on IDing a recent acquisition. The razor on the right of the first photo below is a Milord I purchased in the BST (Number 1), the one on the left is a Milord I got on the bay (Number 2). Neither have date codes, and as number 1 is notched (on the right of the bottom photo), I figure it for a 48-50 NDC Milord.

On to Number 2....... it's not notched, so it's pre 1948, and it has end caps which places it post war. Also, based on the weird chrome part near the TTO knob which isn't knurled, I'm thinking this is a Ranger Tech variant?? Is this the 1946 Milord? If so, it's probably worth more than the 15 bucks I paid for it?

    Appreciate the help

What about this one? A 1941 Ranger/Milord Tech perhaps?

That's right. A shiny nickel handle and TTO knob and a gold head and neck.

looks like somebody chemically stripped the plating off.

I have seen at least two others just like it. I really don't think the plating has been stripped. I think that at least some of these early Milords used nickel plated Ranger Tech handles that simply wouldn't hold the plating. Notice the "silver band" mentioned in the opening post. It appears to be losing its plating as well. The later Milords all appear to be gold plated brass with no nickel under coating.

My guess is that excess Ranger Tech handles were used with brass Milord heads with all then receiving the gold plate.

Interesting- this coincides with my theory that at times, Gillette just got things to market and didn't care too much about what case it was in or if collectors 70 years later would think it was "correct"

    Very interesting post.

I got into wet shaving to use str8s, but DEs are really starting to get my attention for collecting if nothing else.

Aha. 1947 Milord it is. Anyone got any idea what these are worth? Not thinking of selling, it's just nice to know sometimes

I have a 1947 Milord, no notched, endcaps, no date code. It appears that these were also gold plated ranger tech's. The gold finish has worn off the TTO doors and both end caps and now it has a nice nickel finish. Just thought I'd throw my findings out there since we have a thread going about the milord, or should I say milford like so many ebay sellers

Achim, Asylum, and other contributors to this thread - absolutely wonderful. I fished out my Milord, turns out to be a 1947. Its one of my favorite razors. I'm going to bookmark this thread it so well done. Regards.
