While putting my first blade onto a DE razor last night, I realized I had absolutely no idea how tightly to screw it down. Should the blade be relatively flat, or should it be extremely flexed? Somewhere in between?

As tight as it goes.
As tight as you can reasonably tighten it with your fingers. (Sorry but I have visions of some people getting out a pair of molegrips and a vice to do "as tight as it goes")
Nothing wrong with that if you're happy using the same blade for the rest of your life....it sure would be secure!

Yeah, reasonably tight with your fingers. A loose razor will only lead to blood loss.
Perhaps someone could develop a torque wrench for DE razors. I think 1-3 in/lbs would be just right.Wait... we're not supposed to use a vise?
