    Default Why Do You Shave?

I think this could be an interesting thread.

I have worn a beard in the past (well trimmed, nothing shaggy). In fact, if I did not have to shave for work I would probably have a beard now. I would still shave on my neck to trim and keep the shape of the beard correct. Unfortunately for me, facial hair is not allowed at my work, this include moustaches and long sideburns.

The reason I am a wetshaver is, If I have to do it, I am going to do it right.

    Why do you shave?

Do you simply prefer the way you look when you are clean shaven?
Do you have to shave for your job?
Does SWMBO refuse to come near you if you have even a hint of stubble?
Any other reason I did not think of?

    Let's see...

my fiance doesn't like the stubble... don't have to be clean shaven for work, but I prefer it....

I love the feel of my face wen it's clean shaven, it's far more comfortable.

    It's cheaper and more fun

Biggest reason is probably just that I like to do things right. Do it the way that requires that you actually have some skill and practice what you do. Do it so it's an art.

Get's me up in the morning too :)

One reason I shave is because I cannot grow a presentable beard or moustache. Mine would make Yasser Arafat's look good.

    Red face

    Because she likes it.

Because that's the way that I prefer to look.

For many years I had a mustache until it dawned on me that the mental image that I have of myself didn't include the mustache.

I used to shave because I think people with facial hair look like derelicts. (no offense).

Now, I enjoy collecting, using, and enjoying all of my wetshaving stuff. Plus I get excited when I buy a bunch of stuff. I know, thats a sign of addiction.

When I give myself a BBS shave, its a rush....and I get to enjoy it throughout the day.

I can't grow a good enough beard or mustache, plus I have some weird attitude issues with mustaches (though not beards so much).

I've kind of grown out of my hippish tendencies. Also, I need to be presentable for my internship. Although I'm going to grow back my long hair when I go back to shcool next semester, I'll definately keep in the habit of being clean shaven.

I always have a moustache, but I usually shave the rest of my face because the women like it so much. If not for them I would just grow a beard and not bother with the Limes cream, or the wonderful feeling of a badger brush, or the great feel of a BBS shave.

Come to think of it, I do it because I like to spoil myself.

I had a full beard through college, grad school, and most of my adult life. I kept it trimmed close and trimmed around the neck and the cheek area. I never got good shaves before, and I liked the beard. SWMBO didn't mind it, either.

But within the last couple of years, I trimmed it even shorter, then went for the goatee. All that left me with more area to shave, and I went looking for a better way to do it. And I was ALWAYS a gadget person.

(Plus, I teach history. I love doing things the old fashioned way, as long as it is better. And many of the old ways are better. Not all, but many.)

I actually prefer the way I look with a day or two of beard growth. I get mixed reviews from other people. Some other's love with scruff or a beard, other's prefer me clean shaven.

The main reason, I shave is because I enjoy it. For years I always had stubble on my face, both becuase I liked the look and I hated shaing. Now that I've learned how to do it.

I shave because I love to shave.

My whiskers itch like crazy so shaving is the best route for me. I've had some funny facial hair back in the day. Fu-Manchu, soul-patch, chesterfield, etc.

    Now, I live for shaving!

I look better with a few days stubble. Never say "look good".
So I used to just shave twice a week and therefore also look my best twice a week (the day before I would have my PM shave).
Now however I have come addicted to the wonderful pleasures of wet shaving (easy to abstain from shaving when you reach for the canned goo and Mach3) and whish I would look better clean shaven. However, completely clean shaven when you also keep you hair on your head extremely short, is not an appealling look (at least not for me).
SO, I am somewhat torn between looking my best, and having more frequent and pleasurable experiences in the bathroom with my badger and blade.

Because I hate that prickly feeling I get on my hands when I rest my head on it. That, and anal retention. I blame everything on anal retention.

Similar reason. I can grow a good beard on the bottom of my face but the cheeks and mustache areas are quite patchy and spartian.
