    Default Wanted: A Swaty!

I made the conscious decision to put this thread in the straight razor forum because I figured you all would probably know what I am talking about and therefore have better luck.

I am looking to buy a Swaty.

I know they are treasured but if anyone has one to sell, I am interested. I have absolutely no idea what a fair price would be.

I am not interested in ebay special straights or restoring straights at all. Therefore, I have or will most likely buy shave ready straights.

From the info I have gathered, a Swaty or some other type of fine finishing hone is probably my best choice and a great addition to my fine 4-sided pasted strop from Tony Miller.

Have I got a deal for you. Since I sold all my straights last year I happen to have a few items left over that I won't need. I have a Pike/Swaty that's serviceable and best of all...........IT'S FREE

Just pm your address and i'll mail it to you in the morning.

Unless someone pays you to take one off of their hands, it will be hard to find a better deal.

    Wow that's a great deal!

I was going to suggest alternatively buy a 'Kimberley' barbers hone from Tilley (Redtrader99) on Ebay, if you can't find a Swaty. But no need now.

My favorite "barber hone" is the Carborundum No. 102. It is as "fine" as a swaty, yet it cuts much, much faster, and it is INCREDIBLY easy to use. In my opinion, they are the finest stones out there, but they can be quite hard to come by.

On a side note, Tony Millers Strops (both hanging and paddle) are AMAZING. A diamond pasted paddle strop (with 3, 1, .5, and .25 micron diamond paste) will simply embarass ANY barber hone...

    Joel,

That is great to hear. I do have a 4-sided paddle strop pasted w/ with 3, 1, .5, and .25 micron diamond paste. I do love it.

What do you mean by "embarass"? I was planning to use the Swaty as an initial refresher and then going to the pasted strop to really polish up the edge. I don't think it could replace a pasted strop.

I have what can only be described as "too many" stones (according to my wife, at least). I find a purpose for each one, although not always for razors. I think a pasted strop is a fantastic item for maintaining a shave ready edge, but only for razors that have already been brought up to snuff, and that requires stones.

By the way, Steve, if you're giving away any yellow Belgian coticules, let me know!

Oh, and when Joel says that Tony Miller is the man when it comes to strops, he's not kidding.
