Does anyone else get allergic reactions to certain deodorants?

I do. I'm trying to see which ingredient is causing it. I get allergic reactions to Old Spice and Mitchum, but Speed Stick 24/7 is fine. I think it's glycol, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have similar experiences?

I have been using Degree since i was sixteen, so i don't know about any others. I don't remember what i used before either.

I have the same problems. For some reason, I can use mitchum for a while (2-3 months) and then I develop some kind of allergy to it. I will switch to another product, same patherns happens. Right now, I have been using a product made by Natural Instinct (made in Oz) containing salts and minerals only. The thing did not react... yet... I've been using it for a solid 6 months now. I do not understand why this one is okay but since it only have salts and minerals, it's quite basic...

I heard that Aluminium in deodorant might be harmful for some individuals. Mitchum is Aluminium free if I remember correctly...

I had a reaction to Old Spice on vacation one year,it felt like my armpits were on fire. I went back to Mitchum unscented and have had no problem for years.

Back in school around 7th grade we had to split up the girls and boys and we each had to watch videos on "our changing bodies". Afterword the teachers handed out bags with deoderant (non-antiperspirant), bar soap, and other cleanliness items.

We had some specialist come in and explain that the aluminium in the anti-antiperspirants work by basicaly clogging your pores, and this is not good, also the aluminium gets into your lymph node glands that are under your armpits.

Maybe this explains why my armpits run like a waterfall after i shower and dont put any deoderant on.

I've had reactions from a couple of deodorants over the years. I've also found that certain deodorants stop working and you have to switch around a little before they'll work for you again. Probably has something to do with the kind of bacteria growing under your pits, I guess.

I long ago, decided that I am one of the following:

#1 A freak of nature

#2 That lightning strike did something strange to my body chemistry.

#3 I am descended from aliens.

#4 All of the above. (well, ok, maybe not the aliens)

I cannot wear any deodorant under my arms for more than a day or two in a row, oe else they become red and irritated. Some deodorants actually cause the tissue there to swell. Fortunately, I can work outside all day in 100+ degree weather, and sweat buckets, without ever developing an odor. Regular showers take care of business for me. I still use deodorant a couple times a week though just to be safe.

I used Right Guard antiperspirant for years, until recently. I wanted to get away from the aluminum and the t-shirt staining so I went to Right Guard Sport Max deodorant. It gave me a terrible rash under my armpits after a few days of use. Since then I have begun to use Speed Stick Musk deodorant. Works great for me, no rash, and it smells great!

Interesting question. A few years ago I bought some Old Spice deodorant and it really made my under arms itch something fierce.

Interesting thread...I thought I was the only person who had this issue. I quit using deodorant when I was around 24 and I am 54 now. I have tried off and on a few times to use deodorant and I get a terrible irritation with any brand I use. So now I use Pinaud what ever scent I use as a body splash when applying my aftershave and put a little slap under each arm. Interesting thing though is even when I don't use any scent my persperation has no or very little odor.....

Antiperspirant and Deodorant are two things I see in hygiene products that are most likely to cause a reaction with people. Aluminum chlorohydrate, cyclopentasiloxane, glyceral hydrate, butyl ether, etc are all drugs that are very irritating to the human body in certain proportions. Hell, plain old alcohol can be the culprit.

You can have two different brands of deodorant with the same ingredients, and one can irritate you where the other won't because of the different formulations in them. Right Guard may have too much hydroquinone, while Mennen Speed Stick doesn't have enough to bother you. BUT, over time your body develops a resistance to the hydroquinone or anhydrous, so Speed Stick no longer does the job. Then you go back to Right Guard which previously gave you a rash, and now your body likes it because it needs the extra dose of what was previously too much for your skin.

Good rule of thumb: if it irritates you before, take note of it for when your current deodorant loses its effectiveness. Right Guard is probably the strongest antiperspirant out there, or at least it was at one time. I use it semi-regularly in order to A: Make sure my body doesn't react to it too strongly down the road and B: To make sure that in not using it every day I don't build up a tolerance to it and not have anything stronger to turn to once my current deodorant loses its effectiveness.

You can be allergic to anything, however if you put up the ingredients i may be able to shed some light point out which are common allergens!

old spice sets my pits ablaze like a five alarm house fire, im pretty sure its the alcohol in it, so does axe deodorant. right guard keeps the funk and flame away nicely

I also had problems with Old Spice. I liked the product but hated the pain, so I switched to Mitchum. I have no reaction now but I think Old Spice used to work better even though it was not an antiperspirant. I tried the Gillette stuff a long time ago also. It did not cause any problems, and it worked really well, too well actually, made me feel unnatural.

Mitchum is powerful, powerful stuff. I was able to use the sensitive skin formula for a few years before I started havung a reaction. Sure wasn't too bad, but I didn't want the aluminum anymore because it stains my shirts. I recently started using Almay. I prefer unscented but haven't found any Almay unscented yet. The scent isn't overpowering or obnoxious to me. One thing though. it says that it is an anti-perspirant but I still sweat like Secretariat after I use it. Maybe it's a little too mild, but I definitely don't react to it and there is no aluminum. I am going to try trimming - not shaving - the pit hair to see if that helps with the application.

I haven't run into a deodorant I couldn't use. But anti-perspirants are entirely different. Almost any of them give me problems by the third day.
