Trouble (?) with a boar brush

Recently I dug out a VDH boar brush. Purchased it in '02, but hadn't used it. Have put it into the rotation, but now notice that it seems to put out a lot of stray hairs, that is hairs that project out after it clean it. Is this normal for a boar brush? None of the badgers seem to have the same problem.

That is a problem with the manufacturing of the brush. Its about the glue, not the actual hair.

I HAD a VDH brush and it shed a ton. If you read the many reviews of the Omega boar brushes, you'll see that they don't shed anymore than a normal badger brush.

As Lopyswine points out that is a problem with a cheap brush like the VDH and probably the way the knot is glued in rather than the hair itself.

I have two VDH's and one sheds quite a bit and the other hardly at all, it's kind of 'luck of the draw' with those brushes, although they work well for a cheap brush and for the price you can just throw it away if it sheds out or if it gets so bad you can't stand picking the hair off your face anymore.

Go to ebay and you'll find a lot of good quality Omega boar brushes that work much better and hardly shed at all. I have been using one for nearly a month now and mine has only lost maybe five or six hairs overall and usually not on my face but as you say I see them standing out after I wash the brush and just pull them off.

Got lucky with mine.. it's been a great performer, maybe loses 2 or 3 hairs a week with daily use. Not bad at all if you ask me.

It's an interesting brush that performs differently with each product. With soaps, I need to use a lot of water and lather on the puck. Haven't had any luck face-lathering with soap.

With creams, I can just do a few swirls and it gobbles up the cream, then I basically face-lather... works like a charm.

Mine lost a lot of hairs, too. And one day, after 6 months of use, a chunk fell right out of the center... I hate to knock VDH, but you can get much better brushes for just a few dollars more.
