Palmolive Classic Green tube (UK) question

Hi guys

Just picked up a tube of this today to check it out. Now, thinking about the youtube videos I popped a blob into my mug, swirled it round and got a lather.

Now, I checked B&B for info on the cream tonight and I read on the review thread that there is a red and green tube variety. The green is noted as being brushless. Hmm. Is this the case? Should I use it brushless, is it perfectly fine to swirl it up to a lather in a mug with a brush? Does it make a difference? Tonights lather was a little wet and I put it down to my lack of experience with shaving creams. Any advice on this cream is appreciated.

If you have the tube like the one in the pic below then yes, you can use it with a brush.

I note that you are in the UK. IN that case you might have the darker green tube version which can also be used with a brush.

The red/white one is the US version, you probably have the Europe/England version.

The green brushless version they speak off in the review thread is the US brushless version.

Gonzalo, it's a different kind of Palmolive--it's used with a brush also, but not as good as the Euopean kind in the green tube.

I have some, use it with a brush no problems. I was surprised that when I got my Taylors avocado it wasnt much different to the Palmolive. It does dry out quite quickly I find and isn't as moisturising as the Taylors. No idea about the difference in shaves as I'm the weak link in my setup!

Russell, although I'd never diss any of the Taylors creams because I've used a lot of them, I much prefer Palmolive, Erasmic, Ingram, and other "working stiff" brands. Gone are the days where I spend more than 3$ on a cream or soap.

Gonzalo, I was very confused when I saw the Palmolive from Europe as well. I figured everything about it would be the same as what I had bought when I go to Florida, or other places in the US, but I noticed big differences. The US kind is good indeed, but the European Classic kind is nicer smelling, and I find the lather even richer and creamier. By the way, in Europe, the Palmolive soap sticks are also a big seller.

Thanks guys. The tube I picked up is the darker green variety in Scarface's second image. I'm hoping to get good results from it (fingers crossed!).

The european Palmolive is really nice, and the bonus is that's it's super cheap and most of the main supermarket chains stock it.

I use the Palmolive also every now and then and I must say, it's pricewise a really good choice, with a nice scent and a good skincare, I like it really...

I agree with this..it aint bad stuff, I bought one for Crackerjack Jeff and then I thought what a Putz I am for not getting one for myself so went out and got one for myself aswell I think even cheaper then then I got for Jeff I think I got it for 1,79 Euro at C1000 supermarket. they got the Verguldehand there cheaper then kruidvat. go check it out guys.

good stuff this was the only trip I did when I was a youngster and ignorant with shaving I thought wow expensive 1,79 euro for a tube lets try it, I used it then as edge gel directly on the face and I noticed how nice the shave was with an M3. but I was too cheap a$$ to buy it again and forgot and bought goo in a can again.. how wrong was I ..but that time still has a big imprint left in my brain how nice it was why I never bought it again like that hit would kill my bank account no any T&H or Taylor or GFT will do that for you

I tried it again last night, found it dried my skin out a little and didn't lubricate too well. But then again I don't like proraso, I'm definitely in the minority there.

did you use enough water? I find that if I don't use enough water it's definately not very slippery.

When I was adding water to the lather it went from too dry to too wet very quickly. I'll try it again in the future. I find it leaves a lot of residue on my razor as well.

Just had a good shave with this stuff. Not BBS or anything but satisfying. I have a preference for my Lime Trumpers soap scent over the Palmolive, but 'bang for buck' its got to be the cream. The texture and quality of the lather is slightly different to the soap. A shiny beaten egg white kind of thing. Like meringue even!

Post shave I do concur that the skin is a little dry so a good moisturiser is a must. Currently working on a 'two stage' approach: Aleo to take the initial heat and redness, followed later in the evening (I need a night cream

) by some Nivea.

As for getting it 'just right'. Its still a learning curve but dipping a few fingers into a sink of hot water and 'flicking' the drops a few at a time into your lather is a slow but very manageable way of adding liquid. As always YMMV
