    Default buckskin strop?

Yesterday I was in a small shop and I saw a razor strop that was labeled (by the manufacture) as buckskin. It had no name on it. Just "Made of Genuine Buckskin U.S.A." and it was considerably thinner than most strops so, I'm inclined to believe them. I've heard of using pigskin, cowhide, and even exotic critters like elephants and giraffes, but never buckskin. Has anyone else heard of such a thing? I didn’t get it (way overpriced) but it got my curiosity peaked.

Please feel free to comment on this subject if you have ever heard of this, or if you have an opinion on it, or if you have questions. I’ve talked to a few other straight razor users and they were just as curious and perplexed as me.

Ive (once - not my strop) used a really thin one. I dont remember what it was made of, but it was reallllllly thin.

I dont see any reason why buckskin wouldnt be used.

Interested in this. Any of the expert strop makers around here please chime in. Tagged this thread for future updates too, so I'm watching.

It's like shaving with a DE my friend, don't try to count which side you've used for how many strokes - just trust that the law of averages works and everything is eventual. --luvmysuper
