Default How do I remove pink stains on a DE Razor?

    G'Day,

I have my nice Gillette Red Tip SS that has some pink stains on it. Nothing major, like drops.

I tried to clean it yesterday and I couldn't get rid of them. I checked the 'clean my DE' thread but I did not see anything about pink stains. I then search the web to find something and most people have those pink stains on their shower head or in the sink. They say to use stuff like an alkalin product, other suggested toothpaste and other acidic stuff (without naming any product, of course). The pink bits are supposed to be bacteria living on the metal. I forget the scientific name.

Well, I tried them all, nothing worked. The plating is not damaged and on a few spots, I can feel some kind of bump with my nail. It's not rust, well, if it is, I never saw pink rust.

I tried so far, warm water with bleach (10 shot of water and 1 shot of bleach), soaked for 30 mins. A lot of black stuff came out of it but the stains are there. I then tried toothpaste and toothbrush, nothing. Water with dishsoap, still there.

I though I should get the big things, baking soda and water, still there. Baking soda and vinegar, still there. It might be a bit lighter but not by much. I am running out of ideas on how to clean those stains. I think my next step might be to boil it??

Finally, I know some might say I was drastic but I also tried to scrubb those with a steel wool. No success.

    Any ideas?

The pink spots may be very small areas of plating loss. Try to take a picture and post to be sure.

Try alcohol. If there is a "bump" it may be some kind of polish drips or something. Alcohol applied with a cotton ball may break it down.

Where on the razor are the pink spots? It probably isn't biological.

Never seen "pink" spots. Interested in seeing pictures.

    Right,

Got the pictures. I know those look like rust stains (orange/red) but they are really more pinkish/red. Anyways, if it was rust, it would come off with the too brush unless the plating is damaged?

    Hmmmm,

Indeed looks like plating loss. It looks minor, however, and should not affect how the razor shaves.

Yeah, just some brassing/plate loss. Nothing to scrub out.
