Eeeh, I think you are talking about the diver's extension, and if that is the case, I would get that bracelet sized at once.
It's not like anything is going to break, it will just look nicer and wear nicer if you get a properly sized bracelet.

I LOVE the 3717! Its easily my next watch, but on the bracelet... So darn good looking. I love the IWC brand too since not many know about it... less flashy.
