This stuff just came to my mind and I wondered if anyone here had any thoughts on this aftershave of yore.

"They bought me a box of tin soldiers,/I threw all the Generals away,/I smashed up the Sergeants and Majors,/Now I play with my Privates all day." Archibald Leach
Oh gawd, Yes! I remember those adds.
The guy would spray some on, then he'd have to literally fight the girl off.
Back in the day they could get away with that kind of thing. Innocent enough, true, but loaded enough that today's audience would react in horror.
I was pretty young back then, and the only thing I shaved (usually before I went to babysit - too bizarre!), was my moustache. One family I babysat for had some of this stuff in the bathroom and I used to put it on just to feel the sting. Yow! And, the smell was, well, nothing special. And, at 13 years old, I wasn't fighting anyone off either.
Thanks for the Memory Lane thing, what a flashback!
Peace,
Pierre

Reverse Engrish?
I hear that in Japan, English words are often used primarily as decoration, with little or no attention given to meaning (especially in t-shirt form). The result (referred to as "Engrish") is often bizarre or amusing.
Hai Karate seems to be a similar phenomenon. In Japanese, "Hai Karate" really doesn't make any sense at all.

OK, the TV ads brought back a lot more memories than the print ad -- but I guess I didn't quite get the phallic thing with the chess pieces when I was a wee lad! Pretty racy advertising considering this must have been at least 30 years ago...
I just remember the ads -- never actually smelled the stuff. Dad, and all of my uncles, were Old Spice men, through and through...

I remember the ads and the stuff itself. I thought it stunk to high heaven.
Thanks for the nostalgia.![]()
I remember it, too, and also never liked it. Another popular one at the same time was Jade East, which was a little better.Originally Posted by MasonM

I remembe Hai Karate & later on I used to use this brand called:
"TROUBLE." As soon as you put it on; you were in trouble & were supposed to have to fight the women off.
I had some of this cologne! I remember they sold it in the local supermarket when I was at school!![]()
Wouldn't it be great to see someone like CREED come out with an advertising campaign that insane?

Back in the '70's, I was at a summer youth camp, and one of the guys dropped a bottle of this stuff and is shattered. He was on the third floor of the dorm we were staying in. After about an hour, by way of the elevator, this stuff had permeated the entire premises. Yuck!

You guys are killing me. The 70's were my hay day, and I loved this stuff (and Jade East). Just for kicks, no pun intended, I recently tried to find a bottle but had no luck.

I was pretty much just a newbie (to the world that is) when this stuff was around. But, I do remember a T.V. comercial of two guys having a "kung fu" fight or something. I've never actually used or even smelled the stuff.
