Shave in the Shower?

Hi folks,

I've recently considered switching up my routine to try shaving in the shower.

Anyone do it? Recommend it?

Right now I shave after getting out of the shower. I use a brush and whip up my lather and shave with Merkur.

I'm considering it for a couple reasons, easy clean up (rinse off), less counter clean up time, etc.

So, if you do it, I have questions like, what's the order of washing hair,body,shaving? Do you leave the shower running while you shave? Leave hair condition in? Do you use a brush and mix up lather right in the shower?

Do you find it more hassle than worth?

May be silly questions, but I'm curious about techniques.

Get in shower, shampoo, take my "shower", prepare lather, apply lather, shave and rinse.

Not a hassle at all, in fact it's easier to shave in there which is why I do it.

A lot of gents like to shave in the shower and there's nothing wrong with that! I don't because I'm not able to position a mirror so that I use it, and trying to wield the tools in there is a fumbly business for me.

I do it and love it. It's easier, cleaner and quicker for me, plus it gives me an excuse to stay in the shower longer, I'm a long shower type of guy.

I shave in the shower after a shower.
Here is the routine.

1. soak brush and wash cloth in hot water.
2. shower and turn off water.

I have a mirror and shaving rack in the back of the shower.

3. Whip up cream an apply to face.
4. Clean breakfast dishes while cream stays on face.
5 wring out hot towel and put over face and cream.
6. re apply cream and shave

It has been working for me

Shaving in the shower is great. You get the constant steam keeping your whiskers nice and soft and the lather moist. I usually wash my hair/body first and then hit the shave. When I finish my shave, I turn the water to cold for a brisk face wash and I am good to go. All told, from the time I get in to the time I get off, it's no more than 20 minutes. I have an adjustable flow showerhead and I'll often reduce the pressure while I am shaving. However, given the cold winter we are having in New England this year, I need all the heat and pressure I can get.

I used to get some really good shaves, but they were with a Sensor razor and brushless cream. And my face suffered afterwards. Then I discovered DE shaving with a brush, but could never figure out the best way to do so while showering. So I gave up the quick and easy for better quality while standing at the sink. I still use that John Allan cream on occasion when I'm in a rush, only now it's with a Schick injector.

First off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with shaving in the shower if that is what works for you.

I shave in the shower a couple of times of week, because I sometimes wake up late and am in a hurry to get to work.

I can get really good shaves, REALLY quick and effortlessly in the shower. The only reason I don't shave in there every day is because I like to stand in front of a big mirror and take my time, and I feel shaving in the shower would be a big waste of water if I took the time I do at the sink.

Anyway, when I do shave in the shower, I almost always use my home made Van Der Hagen shave stick. It compliments the convenience perfectly. I let my brush soak in a mug while I'm doing all my shower stuff. When I'm ready to shave, I take the shave stick and rub my face all over, then take the brush, swirl, the take the razor and bam!

When I'm done, I turn the water off the shower head and let it run through the lower faucet. I then turn it to cold rinse my face right there. This way all I have to do when I step out of the shower is gently dry my face, apply aftershave, and leave. It's a good deal.

I just shaved in the shower for my first time this morning. I got a fogless mirror with a light on it from Brookstone for Christmas, and hadn't used it yet. I was running very late for work this morning (and because of an early work call), so I figured it was a good chance to give it a try. I just went with a brushless cream so I didn't have to add on time with the brush, and it went okay. Not the best shave I've ever had, but it was a nice close shave for the most part. I am sure I will shave in the shower from time to time now when in a rush.

I shave in the shower every day.....we have twin shower heads, and I use the low-flow one that can be toggled on & off for shaving. I use a face scrub and lots of hot spray for a couple of minutes to soften and prep my beard, then use my shave stick & brush of the day combo to work up a good lather. Then I soap up & rinse, giving the lather a chance further soften the beard. After that, it's shave away, with nice hot rinses between passes.

I really couldn't shave at the sink if I wanted to, what with all the girl crap SWMBO has at the sink in our shared bathroom....

I shave my body in the shower, but not my face.

It's very nice and convenient, but I've never found a fogless mirror that works - otherwise I'd shave my face in the shower too.

What do you boys use out there?

I've been shaving in the shower for many years with great results. My razor and brush stand are in there along with a $1 plastic tumbler that I use as a lathering bowl. Whatever cream or soap I'm using stays in there as well. There are many inexpensive shower mirrors that work fine while not being truly fogless.

I am conscious of water usage, so the shower is equipped with a low-flow shower head that has a switch for an even lower flow that I use for shaving. If we ever get our bathroom remodeled, I'll have the faucet control repositioned higher so I can turn the water on and off as needed when the shave happens.

Try it, you'll like it!

I get great shaves in the shower, but I trade off between the shower and the sink. I the shower I typically use something brushless like Shave Secret or KMF, but at the sink I can enjoy one of the many HBS/MB/etc soaps I have along with my PeachScuttle.

I never have used a mirror in the shower, even when I used disposables. I'm able to feel the growth much more easlily than I can see it, so I just shave as usual and buff the areas that still have stubble after the regular three passes.

I admit that I usually shave in the shower during the cooler months, because our bath area is definitely chilly during that time of year. On the other hand, it's fun to exercise some variety in my routine. I doubt I'll ever get a BBS, but I can get DFS on a consistent basis regardless of the location.

hey guys ... thanks for the feedback.

I'm not sold yet because I think I'll prefer the sink and the setup there, but your tips will help work out an approach. I am going to shop for a mirror (gotta use a mirror still for me) and give the shower experiment a try.

Bed Bath and Beyond makes a pretty good fogless mirror. I've had it for a couple of months now and it barely fogs up. When it starts to fog, all I do is rub a little shampoo from my hair onto it and it goes away and doesn't come back for the rest of the shower.

There is one fog mirror, I think sold at the now bankrupt Linens n Things, that mounts to the water outlet, it runs the water through the framing of the mirror, thereby keeping the mirror from fogging up. All you have to do is remove your shower head, mount the mirror on the outlet then reinstall the shower head on the new outlet on the mirror.

been shower shaving for years.my routine is a good face rub/massage while getting the shower regulated and flowing.shampoo and rinse. apply second shampoo or condition.wash body.apply shaving soap or cream, lather up or use a gel .shave,as many passes as needed.rinse off ,rinse hair.towel dry .apply witch hazel ,allow to dry .apply A/S of choice.get dressed and head out to work.

That was my grandfather that almost castrated himself, but I myself shave almost exclusively in the shower.

Just stay away from razors that don't have a textured grip!
