Default Returning to the Velva love...

Shortly after I started wetshaving I tried the magic elixir which is Aqua Velva. I really fell in love with it but, as many ADs will do, my ASAD kicked in pretty hard and I accumulated many, many other bottles of AS.

For the last month I have been on a Pinaud kick, alternating between Clubman, Virgin Island Bay Rum, and Lime Sec. All of these are wonderful aftershaves. I really like them, but there's just something missing that I couldn't put my finger on.

Today I fished out my bottle of AV from under the sink. It was looking sad and neglected. After my shave I splashed some on and...Wow. Why did I ever use anything else? The incredible cooling sensation is something I didn't even realize I missed as much as I did. Afterwards, my face was really soft. Much softer than with the Pinaud line, so I looked at the ingredients on the AV bottle. It has glycerine in it. That's why my skin feels so great afterward.

That's when I realized that AV has got the perfect combination of 1) the alcohol sting that really tones your skin, 2) the cooling menthol to soothe any possible razor burn, and 3) the glycerine to draw water to your skin and leave it feeling silky smooth.

I am going to Wal-Mart, tonight, to get the 7 oz bottle.

My wife really likes the smell of the AV Musk.

I'm right there with you, Tommy C.

I have a number of aftershaves that I enjoy, but the two standbys that I reach for the most are the Aqua Velva first, followed by Speick, which I sort of consider as AV's milder mannered European counterpart. Both are straightforward and unpretentious, and always put me in a good mood.

Plus, Aqua Velva has the unique ability to instantly take me back 40 plus years to wonderfully simple memories of my childhood and my Dad. I think it has this ability with a lot of American men.

    Long live Texas.
