Default Just found this place !!!!

Just stumbled accross this place, and wish I had found it years ago (was it around then ? )

Been shaving for about 30 years... but never knew how ! Sort of bled my way though it.
Started with a cheap single blade razor... went to electric, then tried "new fangled" products as they came along. (wet and electric)

So far, I think my "favorite" shave has been "Protector" (wilkinson sword ?) with little wires over the blade... but this has long since gone off our shelves.
The past few years have seen me using the "Mach3" but since loosing my job, the blades have become more a luxury item !
They are SO expensive in the UK, and the market is flooded with counterfeit blades, its impossible to know which you are getting - and either ALL our local shops are getting counterfeit ones, or the quality has dropped off markedly ..... the past year I just cannot get the job done without lots of passes and pain

So I thought I would dig out the old single blade razor... but its grown legs, and fell into the void, so its time for a brand new one

Ive been reading for DAYS now, trying to find MY razor... and its soo confusing, I am more or less settled on a Merkur FUTUR - it IS a lot of money to me... but Im determined to buy the ONE.... the one that will pay for itself, and last longer than me

So, any help and/or advice would be most welcome...

Dont know if this has a bearing:
I am overweight, dark haired... and only get a GOOD shave in the bath

Hi Rooster and a warm welcome to you. I think most of the Gents are watching football. Not just any old football game but the SUPERBOWL! It's the day to yell for your team, eat, drink and hope you chose the right points in the pool.

I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised at so many responses to your question. Stay tuned................

Welcome to B&B. Thanks for diving in! What starts out as a better way to shave quickly becomes a bit more like a hobby for most.... Either way, you have found an excellent community of great people!

Welcome from a new member to a new member (I joined last night). Since you said you just lost your job might I recommend that you read my post in this section of the forum where I explain how I received my DE razor. Does not hurt to ask around.

I can attest that the cost of the Mach3 blades in the states has gone up and the quality gone down dramatically.

Again, welcome and enjoy this forum...the folks here are great and most helpful.

Hi Rooster, Welcome - I started DE shaving about 3 months ago and my choice of weapon is a Merkur HD and it is fantastic. I can't rave about it enough. Paid about £25 via the Internet.

Welcome to another UK member from another fairley newie. My first DE razor, a Wilkinson from Boots for around £3.80 is doing me just fine, worth having a look into and Boots own soap is good too if your on a budget, also palmolive and erasmic soaps good and cheap at Wilkinsons or Savers. I also upgraded my brush from a boar hair to a badger hair, and wow what a difference, got this from ebay 'Sanguine Razors' for around £15 with P&P and have been well impressed, they have badger brushes fro £8.99 or so, well worth a look. Enjoy your new hobby, and lets see the soaps/creams start taking over your bathroom, mark my words!
