I use Ivory in the shower instead of soap b/c I hate that sticky soap residue. Won't use Dove b/c that's a 'beauty bar'. Any thoughts or feedback on the stuff?

My name's Jim, but most people call me...Jim.
I used Dove for awhile. I wouldn't worry that it says 'beauty bar' it won't impinge on your manliness to use it. Recently I've started using Nancy Boy soap in the shower because my skin dries really easily and i needed soap that rinsed clean and didn't dry my skin. It happens to fit the bill.

Irish Spring with aloe is a good in-between. I can use Lever 2000 all year round. In the dead of winter, I have to resort to Dove or else dry up to a crisp.

I've always been partial to Ivory -- it just has a good "clean" smell. I use it in the shower and as a hand soap. I also occasionally use Irish Spring in the shower, just for a change of pace.
Lately, I bought a huge bar of Papoutsanis green olive-oil soap at at Greek imports store (this stuff used to be in every household in Greece when I lived there as a kid, so it was sort of a nostalgia thing) -- makes a very nice lather, but it smells too much like play-doh. I was sort of toying with the idea of swirling my brush over it and trying it out for a shave....

Kiss my face bath soap is what I use. Made with olive oil it really helps to moisturize your skin.
Honeybee Sue's unscented shave soap. My skin drys out and eczema occurs with most bar soaps. Her soap works great for shaving, body, shampoo, etc.
I have very sensitive skin, and use Johnson's (or store-brand rip-off of Johnson's) baby shampoo as both shampoo and body wash, with the exception of my feet, on which I use whatever body wash gel soap was cheap.

Any kind of real homemade soap! The commercial brands take out the glycerin and add all sorts of weird detergents. Any name brand soap that you purchase in a store is going to be drying and possibly harmful to the skin. Homemade soaps have not had the glycerin extracted and are wonderful good for you. I promise you once you have used a homemade soap, you will never buy a store bought one again! There are hundreds of homemade soapmakers on the web. I have not had to use lotion since I started using what I refer to as 'real' soap. What the commercial guys will do is sell you the soap with the glycerin extracted and then sell you a lotion that has the glycerin added back in....Glycerin is a natural byproduct of soapmaking that in itself is more valuable than the soap. This is why you can buy some 'commercial' soaps for such a good price.
Alright, deep breath and off my 'soap' box....

MB: Good luck, and since I love your lavender and rosemary mint shave soaps, I will have to check out your bath offerings as well!

If he's not going to use a "beauty bar", do you expect him to use Nancy Boy?![]()

Life is too short to share that bacon with anyone.
I have tried, and am very impressed with Mama Bear's Oatmeal, milk and honey soap. It is all gone now, tho, and soon another MB order will have to be placed (and she has aftershave now) It has a nice clean scent, and it has encouraged me to look around for other soapmakers. Thanks, Mama Bear!!!
Yeah I guess asking him to use Nancy Boy might be a bit much. I have used and loved MamaBears soaps and have to say they are amazing. I'm trying some other stuff now but they really fit the bill. They are definitely worth the money. The nancy boy bars tend to last a little longer for me but I'm still alternating between the NB and the MB bars.

The best bath "soap" i've ever used, and have been using for the last 10+ years is made by Oil of Olay and I buy them at Costco or target.
I dont' use lotion on my body so using a lotion based soap helps a lot. I do plan on trying some of Mama bear's soaps though.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, give their Green Tea (The Vert) bar a try, good quality and great TJ price.

jack, I have used Ivory all my life since a child pretty much, and have to say, it is the WORST regarding sticky residue! Not to mention, very very drying. Trust me, there are far better things out there...as a matter of fact, I think Ivory is probably the worst soap I've used.
I am quite happy with KMF Olive Oil and Grandpa's Pine Tar soaps.
Sue, which Will G did you try to do, the shea butter or emerald?

I usually use Tone cocoa butter soap in the shower. Sometimes I use Dove, though.

Marseilles Soap, Olive Oil, Sandalwood or Citrus. Marius Farbe is the Best. Pre de Provence is good too. I get it at Thefrechybee.com (name is stupid, prices are good).
No residue, no film. Rinses clean.
I had dry itchy skin all my life, started using this soap, no problems. Comes in bars, cubes, liquid, and both in scented and neutral. NO product exists that I give a higher rating than Marius Farbe.
