I have been having sub-par success with the bar razors I have tried, so I wanted to try an open comb razor.
Does anyone have a decent shave-ready one they could give me a good price for? I prefer TTO, but for the right price I'm not picky :)
Thanks!

Note that there is a wide variation in the way the various open combs shave, with the older Gillettes being more aggressive, while the current Merkurs are more mild. Based on your comment, I would recommend one of the open comb Merkurs. I think there are 4 models all with the same head. I bought a used 12c here on BST and it is one of my favorite razors. It is quite forgiving on technique, less sensitive to proper angle and pressure, but still gives a very close and comfortable shave. I highly recommend it to anyone.
I currently have a new merkur and a gillette slim. Trying different blades, settings on the slim, and refining my technique, I still can't get a really close shave without lots and lots of passes.
And, my beard is really coarse, so I'm thinking an open comb would be good to try.
I really don't care if it's aggressive or mild, I just want something to compare my bar ones to!
Anyone have an extra sitting around?
Hi,
I've got a 1934 gillette aristocrat, tto open comb razor that i may be willing to part with.
It has the original leather case, and blade holder, and is in generally pretty good condition, with some minor plate loss around the base near the knob. it does however have the fairly common "loose tto knob" issue, where you have to push the knob up after turning, but hey, its 75 years old, so hard to really complain.
i have pictures posted up on picasa, you can see them here:

i'll throw in a few blades too if you want, I have 7 merkur blades, 5 gillette yellow sharpedge blades, and 10 astra superior platinum.
i'd like to get $65 plus shipping (and the paypal fee if you want to pay through them) but am negotiable.
cheers,
-- michael
