    Default Bob's Razor Works

I'd just like to hear from anyone who's used one of cooncatbob's wooden handles on the DE heads. They are gorgeous and I'd love to get one or try to make one myself, but it seems like with the shiny lacquer, it might have a tendency to slip. Does anyone have any problems gripping them? How's the balance.
Bob, do you add any weight (lead, etc.) to the inside or does the wood pretty much match the weight of the original handles that were removed?

Thanks for your interest, actually I use wipe on polyurethane.
The shape of the handle is similar to Jagger and T&H and provides a good grip.
I don't load my handles and while they're lighter then my solid brass handles they are heavier then many of the hollow metal handle on 3 piece razors.
The balance is towards the head, but most razor are head heavy to some degree.
Here's a picture of my personal handle I'm using it now with a replated NEW head that I just got back from the plate shop.

I have one of Bob's wooden handles (rosewood) as well as a brass turned handled which is kind of like the Merkur Barberpole. I also just received a replated NEW head and used it on the brass handle. The pair make a fantastic razor; it's heavy enough to use a really light touch, it has great traction and is not slippery, and the NEW head gives a great shave. The same head also works on the wooden handle. The wood does not slip and has a nice "warm" feel. Merkur/EJ heads also work, as will a Gillette Tech head, but my preference is the replated NEW. These two razors have kicked my other razors, including a Future and a Merkur HD, to the side. Bob also says he can replate the brass handles also, and I am thinking about that. The quality and workmanship on these razors match anyone anywhere, both for function and design.

Thanks for the info. That handle you have pictured is the one I really like. I notice that most of your handles are SOLD. Do you just make more as you have time, or do you make to order? And do you just re-plate heads that you get on your own, or would you re-plate something that I sent to you?
And finally, do you only replate in nikel? I have a few gold heads that I wouldn't mind getting handles for, but could you plate the "collar" to match?
