Question Tabac haters - what soaps/scents do YOU like?

    Greetings, campers.

I'm one of those folks who's simply not fond of Tabac -- to me it's got that entirely wrong,
astringent Grandma's perfume drawer after a nasty night at the bar bouquet.

Or maybe it's the tallow that you object to.

In any event, I'd like to know what soaps/scents you do enjoy?

    Cheers,

It smells like '70s disco pornstars.

I like Pre de Provence, AOS Sandalwood, TGQ Cavendish Black and Orange Patchouli, and Valobra Almond. QED Wild Rose and Fresh Limes smelled great but they didn't work so well for me.

I like the scent of Trumper's coconut oil (very coconut), Pre de Provance (kind of smells like laundry detergent), Cade (nice cedar scent), MWF (not much of a scent really, but pleasant enough), T&H Luxury soap (citrus and lavander), and Erasmic (sort of smells like lemonade mix but in a good way).

Every single one of you is going to be added to a certain list . But don't mind me, the alternatives might be interesting all the same...

From the makers of Tabac, I have never tried Irisch Moos, but if it performs anything like Tabac, minus the scent, the legend will grow.

#1 scent I enjoy is Nancy Boy Signature of Lavender - Rosemary - Peppermint

For the record, I don't hate Tabac. It works fine, it's just not a particular favorite in the scent department.

    My current go-to soaps:

    Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet
    Penhaligon's English Fern
    Truefitt & Hill Luxury
    Olivia's WeihnactsMann Rasierseife Dschinn
    Olivia's WeihnactsMann Rasierseife Sarubia

Penhaligon's Opus 1870 smells ridiculously good. AOS Lavender is okay (it smells just like dried lavender.) The old Body Shop cream smells pretty good, too. Godrej Lime Fresh isn't bad if you like fresh citrus scents.

    I hate Tabac as well!

It smells way too much like a man. I mean, let's face it. When I put on my best Italian dancing shoes and my favourite stove-pipe pants and head down the wine bar to dance to the Village Boys, everyone looks at me like I'm the Marlboro Man. You know, the kind of guy who lifts heavy things and works for a living! The type who may, heaven forbid, get grease under his nails and drive a standard shift truck with a big engine instead of a hybrid!

No, not for me. I'd rather smell like a field of little flowers, or a bowl of sweet fruit.

    Love you guys!!!!

The only two soaps I can't stand the smell of are Tabac and Williams so the list of likes is pretty long but I'll hit the top ones.
TOBS Sandalwood is a big favorite
    Speick
    Col Conk Bay Rum, Amber
Proraso Green, Green tea and Aloe
    Arko
Tryphon's Tuscan Pine, Clorofilla, Acqua do Colonia, Florida Water
Trumper's Rose, Lime (but the lime is just a touch too powdery)
and don't get me started on the creams!

Are you pleased with the performance of Gold Dachs and can you describe the scent?

Ok there whistle britches. I have some Italian dress shoes but I don't dance in them--I'm past that stage of my life. I enjoy an evening at the local wine bar but not any band with the word village in their name. I get dirt and grease under my finger nails, have a truck with a 360 CID engine and last week when my neighbor was having a problem getting a bolt loose, I broke out the 1-1/2 inch socket and the 1-inch drive ratchet (that will impress anybody). So I don't find it too strange that I would rather smell like fruity flowers than a 1970s disco dancing porn star wrapped in grandpa's smoking jacket and tucked away in grandma's perfume draw
    1970s porn -- blah
    disco -- blah
    old lady perfume -- blah

The reasoning presumably being that the alternative to Tabac is flowers or fruit ...

My wife's response when kissing her goodbye (after this morning's shave w/ HBS Bay Rum) was, "Mmmmm. You smell good."

Not that it really needs to be said, but there are many splendid Tabac alternatives, neither flowery nor fruity.

I don't care for the scent of Tabac either.

    My favorites:

    Penhaligon's English Fern
Trumper's Rose and Limes (although all of their scents shave well)
DR Harris Lavender (Nice mild scent)
T&H Luxury (Or Vintage Blades soap. Light lavender scent)

Yeah, I haven't met a woman yet that doesn't like a good bay rum. For the record, that vile concoction in a Masters Bay Rum Aftershave bottle isn't bay rum. It's just gross.
As a side note, I was half listening to the discovery channel; a show on sex and pheromones and sexual attractants. Turns out men were more sexually stimulated when they wore flowery colognes and were turned off buy Musk colognes. Women were the opposite. They got horny wearing colognes with musk oil and turned to ice when wearing a subtle gardenia spray.
I guess that explains why I take the rose petal bubble bath, shave with Trumper's Rose and slather down with Thayer's Rose and Trumpers Coral Skin food when getting ready to take the wife on the town. Then shower and slather on the Club man and Pinaud Musk for ... sexytime
