Do safety razors and blades rust?

i just bought a merkur hd and sample blade pack and never thought about whether or not the razor or blades might rust.

Modern blades are made from stainless steel and are rust resistant.
Merkur's are chrome plated, the handle are plated brass and the heads are a plated zinc alloy.

The razor won't rust and the blades shouldn't rust as most of the new blades are stainless steel.

SS blades still rusts if blade is left in razor that is wet, however it is just light surface rust and will usually wipe away.
