Default Help with an Identify please.

Picked this razor up at a local antiques faire about month ago. Cost me the grand total of £7

Its looks very similar to a Gillette that was listed on an earlier thread , but it has no brand marking anywhere i can find..
It looks like an older Gillette open comb tech , but i figure its a copy as its unbranded?

Its in pretty good condition , and came with a selection of old blades , only a couple of which were looking slightly rusty.

Ive tried it out with a derby , and its a fairly mild shaver. Similar to my 40's tech.

    Any ideas?

Sorry i couldn't get em any better focused , my Camera wasn't playing ball tonight.

If it were a Gillette, it would be an Old Type rather than a Tech. However, I don't really think it is a Gillette. There are small details that look a little different, plus if it were a Gillette, it likely would have the name stamped on it. It appears more likely that it is a Gillette knock-off. I knew there were U.S. made copies of the Gillettes but apparently there were British made ones also.

    Regards,
    Tom

    I'm thinking it's a Robart copy!

Ray, what was the Robart? I know there was a Rotbart razor that was similar to the Gillette old type, but that was German made as far as I know. Don't I recall Achim mentioning some kind of joint venture at one time between Gillette and Rotbart or something of the sort?

    Regards,
    Tom

Yes Tom...typo Rotbart, which is a Gillette knock off, in fact it was a Gillette under name company and was made not only in Germany but England and the US for a time.
It was actually a deterrent that was put into play as the blade wars started back in the late teens and twenties.
