    Default Glenmorangie - WTH?

A few years ago, I bought a bottle of Port Wood and really liked it.

But now I see they changed the names, and that the prices went up, A LOT.

Is it the same where you guys buy your scotch or is it that my liquor store had a really bad deal on these?

Glenmorangie has always been a heavyweight in Scotland but across the pond sales have gone up dramatically of late, so the company has capitalized on this, raising their prices and using a better marketing campaign. IMO, Glenmorangie is quite good, but has never been worth it's price tag stateside and it's certainly not worth the $90 a bottle I've seen it marked at some stores.

Yeah, Glenmorangie did a total rebranding recently and seems to have raised the price along with it. I really don't like what they've done with the labeling. Scotch can be confusing enough without adding nonsense names to their various offerings.

I recall the Port Wood was under 60$ CND, for that price it was great. But I'm not ready to pay 75$ for that scotch, especially when there are so many choices.

$90, you have got to be joking! It's normally about £25 here abouts.

You can thank LVMH (Louis Vitton, Moet Hennessy). After purchasing Glenmorangie a few years back, they decided to revamp the line up. While I like their Whisky, I wouldn't buy it at some of the outrageous prices I have seen. I was lucky to pick up a few of the new ones for the old prices.

What? Something cheaper here than in the States? I must buy a bottle and frame it...

Along with the "upscaling" of the branding, transportation costs have risen as well, and you don't find fine malts in plastic bottlings to defray some of that expense. I've noticed a rise in the price of nearly all Scotch, but not on the scale of the Glenmorangie.

They've got to defray the translation costs from Port Wood to Quinta Ruban somehow!

I got a bottle as a gift, but I'm not sure that I'd drop my own cash on it, but it is darn good.
