  1. Default What should I be looking at next?

    So far I have:

    a Merkur HD
    a Merkur Slant Bar
a Gillette Fat Boy Adjustable (F3)
a 1940's Gillette Superspeed (no date code)

I also have a Dovo straight on order from The Well Shaved Gentleman.

Is there anything else I should be looking at getting to complete the shave experience (razorwise)? I'm not interested in collecting at all, just in razors that will provide different (and hopefully better) shaves.

FWIW, here are the ones I've thought of:

Merkur Vision - Decided against. Too big and futuristic looking. Reminds me of the Fusion and why I got away from cartridge shaving.

Merkur Futur - Decided against. Don't like the snap on top and heard too many horror stories of vibrations and difficulties changing blades.

Merkur Progress - Undecided. Seems like a good design. Not crazy about the plastic knob.

Schick Injector - Decided against. I think they're ugly as sin and the bakelite ones especially look like some sort of spackling tool. From what I've read, the main benefit is speed and ease of use, but not necessarily a close shave.

Gillette Ranger Tech - Undecided. Looks promising. Is it different enough from the ones I already have though?

Not really interested in breaking the bank on a Toggle or Sticky.

    Any other ideas?

It looks like you posted this while I was composing my recommendation for the Futur.

I am not sure about vibrations, but I can assure you that the snap-off top is simple to use. Mine works very well, but I did recently read on B&B about someone receiving a broken Futur.

Good luck deciding between so many good choices!

I second the Futur suggestion, despite the problems with mine. Just get a new one on the off chance it is bum.

The Vision shaves like a dream, but if you want something different, try the GEM G-Bar. Gives a very nice shave, is fun to use, etc. I use the Ted Pella PTFE-coated stainless blades.

An Aristocrat won't break the bank, and would be a good addition to your Gillettes.

Here's my $0.02: I think you should try a new design like a Futur or Vision. The Vision is a lot pricier than the Futur, so I'd start with the Futur. I have one and I am glad that it is also part of the rotation: it is beautifully made and super solid feeling.

    Cheers,
