Well folks, here we go again. I let my mom know of my interest in old razors and she appears later holding this old gem (no pun intended).
From my checking the ASRCO website, Gem and Ever-Ready merged in 1906 to form "The American Safety Razor Co". Star was added to the company in 1919.
I've seen pictures of Gem's, etc, and they look similar. But I've never seen one with just the ASR logo. Perhaps someone with more historical knowledge could lend some more info.
As for the picture I took with the writing on it, it says on the top:
American Safey Razor Co.
Across the middle:
Inventors & Makers
On the left back:
New York
London
Hamburg
On the right back:
Rate In All The Principle Countries Of The World
Its a pretty neat piece. However I could not imagine shaving with it!
Peace.

I use this general type of razor regularly and get great, comfortable shaves every time. Just keep the razor almost flat against your face and take your time until you get the angle just right and generally get the hang of using an SE. Don't give up until you've had at least three or four shaves. It does take a little getting used to, but it is worth it to get those great SE shaves.
