Default What razor do i have?

I cant post pics until Sunday afternoon.

The razor in question looks almost exactly like a 40s SuperSpeed.
    The date code is Y4.

from research i've done looking at date codes i'm assuming this is a 1953 SS. I thought they only made flare tip SS in the 50s.

or it could be a 1978, but i dont think they made razors that look like 40s SS in 1978, did they?

So i'm correct in assuming that i have a 40s style SuperSpeed...
Does plating loss effect the quality of the shave? theres a lot of plating loss on the edge of the doors and the safety bar.
I cant wait to shave with it, i've heard good thing about 40s SS

Plating loss shouldn't affect your shave in any way. I have several old Gillette razors of different styles that are by no means museum pieces, but they shave like brand new. In fact I have the same razor you have and it looks terrible, considering it has been in steady use for over half a century, but it still shaves like a dream.

No sir, plate loss and brassing will not effect the razors performance at all.
It is only a cosmetic feature so don't worry about a thing and enjoy the shave.
