    Default what's the big DEal?

So I tried DE shaving last night at around 3am (worked a swingshift for once) and had 0 problems. Used a Derby blade with my SS (courtesy of user scottydoint via this thread) and my usual Col Conk Bay Rum soap. Massaged some lather into my face before showering but otherwise no prep. Hopped out of the shower, brushed on a good lather, and sliced away. Felt like I wasn't even shaving anything. I figured I had the angle wrong or had installed the blade incorrectly...

But no, I felt my face and realized it was shaving just fine -- felt just like a good straight shave. Finished up a single pass shave in about 3 minutes and felt only minimal stubble this morning. No cuts by the way. My styptic pencil sat idle.

It took months to get to that point with a straight -- although I still prefer a straight now that I have my technique down. DE felt like a regular safety razor, minus any irritation. Good times!

I think a lot of your straight lessons transferred over to the DE, plus I'm sure you've done your homework in advance

    Congrats!

It's interesting you say that yomuppet, as I've always been curious as to whether being a legend with the straight would automatically make you a top performer with a DE as well?

It's definitely nice to have the DE available to use when a straight is impractical. I'll likely have my little SS set aside for travel and for those hurry-up times that I used to keep my electric around for...

As for being a DE top performer, well... haha

    Cheers

Just keep practicing -- all advice aside, a person's straight razor technique is unique to that person!

Most agencies have overtime this time of year to catch drunk drivers weaving their ways home from holiday parties... It's a good way to pick up some holiday OT.
