  1. Default How many passes do u make?

    Hi People!

My facial hair tends to grow in many different directions and to get the smoothest shave, I find I need to make 4 passes. With the grain, againt the grain, north to south and south to north.

    Is this excessive?

It's not excessive -- whatever works for you, and does not cause irritation, is what works for you. That's really all that matters.

    Cheers.

I don't think so. I do four passes as well, in order WTG, N-S, S-N, and finally ATG. I usually take 15-20 min.

Same here. It take time and I do up, down, reverse and even diagonal passes to get most of the the time close to BBS.

I can only pull off a 4th pass (ATG) with a new blade. So I am just going to stick to my 3 pass system and not push my luck

For me it's two WTG passes plus a little touch up on the jawline/chin. Not interested in BBS, just a good shave.

Most of the times 3 is too much. But fortunately I can get BBS after WTG+ATG. Maybe I have to turn the Progress down and maybe I press too much, I don't know.

No, not excessive at all. I do four passes on a daily basis - fewer passes than that and I leave a lot of hair. I'll even do five if I have time and want a really, really close shave.

    Usually 3: WTG/XTG/ATG

If i have a very tame razor, i sometimes mix another XTG in.

My shave exactly, except I'm *interested* in BBS, just not driven to achieve it at the cost of going ATG on sensitive places like the neck, etc.

    Cheers.

Right now 2 passes are enough. WTG and XTG/ATG. No need to do more

It depends on my mood. Sometimes just 1 WTG and 1 XTG, sometimes 2 WTG, 1 XTG, 1 ATG.

Usually 3 with some touch up. Occasionally 4 with two XTG passes in opposite directions. And when I am in a hurry, only 1 or 2.

I used to think I needed 4 passes, but that's before I mastered my technique. Now, I get pretty much 100% BBS shaves with two passes and touch-up.

Typically 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG). However, there are times when I use the last pass as S-N because it ends up being WTG for the most sensitive parts of my neck and ATG for the rougher parts.

Lately I have been experimenting with dropping the XTG. I get an OK shave. However, I believe that DFS doesn't last as long then and I haven't had a BBS that way (at least not over my entire neck)

I know it sounds like a lot but I usually do 5; 2 N-S, 1 S-N, 1 blade buffing and 1 touch-up. My excuse is that I'm still "experimenting" but I think my mind subconsciously tells my hand I need to do more passes just so I can stretch out my happy shave time.

Two for me - with a little cleanup in 3 spots. Was doing 3 but switching to a Merkur seems to have reduced it to two...
