Default My Rooney's have landed...sort of.

My Rooney brushes from TBS arrived today.....well sort of. I had ordered one style 1 LG, and one style 3 med. What arrived today? Two style 1 LG. one in ebony, and one in ivory
These brushes are actually quite different though...if you notice the ivory brush has a noticably higher loft, and a much more pronounced light bulb shape. I will e-mail TBS about this, but I may just eat it and keep these two.
    Cheers, DJ.

Well it looks like it's a crap shoot, but these are nice brushes. Looks like I received a older English style brush...and one in the newer light bulb style.

Yeah...hey I figured I was taking a chance regarding hair grade...curious to hear what people think, is it super as advertised?

Even if it were Genuine and not Super it still would be a good deal...but would be annoyed because it was falsly advertised. I guess I will know pretty soon.

Very nice. I think I like the looks of the ivory more.

Looking forward to hearing how they test drive.

I am already corresponding with TBS (Cathi) about the fact that I wanted a Super and got a Silvertip. We'll see how this turns out, but from her e-mail, it seems some were really Super, and others were not. Sold at the same price. Hm... She also claimed there is VERY LITTLE (mostly personal preference) difference between Super and Silvertip. OK, but I wanted to try a Super, I already have Silvertip...

    Cheers

Ivo, please let us know how you come out. I'm anxious to get mine from TBS to see if I get Silvertip or Super. I won't be too happy if it's not a Super, as I want to try out one of those also. TBS should have made a distinction in the description between the Supers and other ones. It's important to those of us who bought the brushes.

Well I just posted this on the DJ's other thread but I will post it here also. I just got my Rooney Type 1 Small Super and it does indeed state Super on the back of the brush.

Well, my Rooney #1 Large arrived from Tone's Barber Shop. Mine is a Super Silvertip, as advertised in the eBay listing. It also has the English fan shape to the knot (instead of the European bulb shape).

First, the packaging has some typical features for shaving brushes: cardboard box, tissue paper wrapping. However, there is nothing to identify that the box belongs to a Rooney. It is void of any identification except for the handwritten model(?) number and color, cream in this case. I will say that the texture of the outside cardboard is nicer than most; it has the look, and somewhat feel, of leather.

The handle is quite attractive, and I like the #1 style best of the current Rooney offerings. It appears to fit my hand well, and has a high gloss finish. The "grain" in the resin handle is a nice departure from plain, stark white too. The hair is very soft and pliable (as mentioned numerous times by others). The knot has good density, while the hair has a tan color to the tips (nowhere near white) as the photos demonstrate. Unfortunately, it has already lost about a dozen hairs by touching it, and lathering it up once; hopefully those are just loose hairs from manufacturing, and the shedding will cease. The text is full and sharp, though I'm not sure how long that will last.

Finally, I've included a couple of photos with a Savile Row 3824 (Silvertip, 24mm knot) for comparison.

I finally received my Rooneys from TBS yesterday. I griped about the shipping cost and also that it took over 2 weeks to receive them, but I have to say it was worth the wait. I purchased Style 1 Medium and Style 3 Medium, both Super and that is what I received. Damn these are beautiful brushes and were very nicely priced. I hope the SBAD jones takes a breather.......I spoke to Lee yesterday again..........D'OH.... The mailman will be bringing a PJ3 Super to join the family today.........

Oh where, oh where can my Roooneeey be? Oh where, oh where can she be (with apologies to whoever wrote this old song)? I'm jealous of you guys getting your brushes, while my Style 3 Super in black handle is still wandering her way to Texas. I'll post pics when I get it (if I ever get it).

The waaaiiiting is the hardest part (with apologies to Tom Petty).

YEAH!!! The Rooney finally arrived. Here is a picture of him, along with his big brother Chubby 3 in their stylish holder. I like the black handle.

I'm going to lather him up tonight and see how a Rooney Super differs from a Simpsons Best.
