    Default Truefitt & Hill...Worth the $?

As I ordered some T&H shave cream to try out I've been checking out their aftershave balms and colognes in the same scents. At $35/bottle for the balm and $65 for the cologne they seem pretty expensive to me (ok, I'm cheap, sue me).

I have to ask. Does anyone use these products and are they worth the money?

That is pricey for the balms. I'll let others chime in on if they are worth it or not.

    My most succesful ASBs:

    Feather 'Kanwa"
    Baxter's ASB
    QED After Shave Conditioner

    All are much cheaper.

    Mason,

I have T&H1805 cologne. I am not an expert but here is my opinion on this cologne. It is my understanding that some English colognes are heavy initially but fade quickly. In my case with 1805, the scent is barely noticeable after one hour or two. It may just be that my chemistry and that of the cologne don't mix well. I do like this cologne a lot but it just does not last with me. I will continue to use it but I will look elsewhere when buying time comes around. Stay safe my friend.

Exactly what I thought as well. Seems like a lot for a balm.

I'll look into those. I was kind of wanting something that matched the creams that I decide I like after trying them, but at those prices I'm not so sure it matters that much.

Thank you that information. I certainly don't want to pay that much for a cologne that fades quickly.

    Mason,

On all three that I mentioned, the VERY slight initial scent that they have dissipates very quickly so it won't interfere with any cologne.

    Keep it between the lines.

A new concotion that Charles has now.... I've only had it for a short while but seems to be a very quality product. I think it runs $6.50 for 2 oz.

    Mason,

The T&H Spanish Leather A/S splash gets comments from latin ladies, most particularly the Panamanian SWMBO! Seems to stay with me all day. A great
    scent.

She (&, of course, I) also love 1805 cream. That's the one I use to treat myself!

If you ever make it to MA, be sure to check out Colonial... a drain on the wallet, but worth the visit.

I have a bottle of the west indian limes a/s balm. A little (one squirt) goes a long way and leaves your face feeling nice (soothes well, moisturizes ok, smells great). It is my favorite aftershave (others i use are nancyboy, proraso pre/post, coral skin food, CF lavendar balm). I don't use any a/s splashes so I'm not sure how it compares to any of those. I picked up the T&H on a recommendation from colonial and am very happy with it. The bottle will last you forever so its not a bad investment. I think if I had to choose now I'd get a bottle of the new B&B a/s balm thats coming out but as I said I love the T&H.

The smell doesn't last long and so shouldn't interefere with cologne. Also I usually cut mine with some Thayer's WH to spread it around more but if your face is wet the single squirt will spread over an average sized face.

    All the best,

    John

I hope you enjoy the T&H cream Mason. What flavor did you get? I have the West Indian Limes and it makes lather like a mad dog. You have to play with the water to cream ratio but once you get it right, it's a really enjoyable shave.

I tried a sample of the Spanish Leather cologne at Nordstrom's one day. It stayed for a long time.

Thank you. I don't run the NE much at all, maybe once every year and a half, but I'll keep it in mind.

Thank you for that information. I was wondering how far it would go. That helps.

I'm looking forward to trying it. I ordered the West Indies Lime and the Trafalgar. So does it need more water or less than, say, Proraso?

Mason, the balms and colognes are nice, but pricey as you mention. You could always try them as samples first to see if you like them.

    Mason,

Keep your eye on Ashford.com . You can get some good deals on T&H from this site. I use the T&H Classic Balm often...unfortunately they no longer make it. I would definitely second Scotto with the sample idea. They are not inexpensive, but you may find something you really like.

BTW...today I used the Grafton Shaving Cream and Grafton EDT...

Thank you, I was considering requesting some samples. Right now I'm waiting for the creams to see which I like.
