    Default Absolute Favorite DE Blades

Say you can only use 1 kind of DE blades for the rest of your life. What is it?

I ask because I am in the process of finding my favorite. I just tried Feathers for the first time and my first shave was AMAZING. But that blade seems to have gone dull really fast. Now I have some Derby, Dorco, Gillette, and some Israeli blades to try. Don't really know which to try next.

First choice would be Feathers, second would be Wilkinson.

My favorites are the Israeli Personnas in the white and blue package. Plenty sharp and good staying power!

I've recently revisited Merkur blades, and find that they work quite well, contrary to popular opinion. I get a week of great shaves from one blade. Otherwise, Derbys and IPs are fine as well, and cheaper. I want to try the Red Pack Personnas next.

So far, favorites are Gillette 7 o'clock Sharpedge (Russia, yellow) and Gillette 7 o'clock Permasharp (India, green).

Still need to give the Gillette Swedes and Astras another go though. Dorco 301s were sharp and smooth, but the longevity was not there. Derbies were inconsistent. Israeli and US Personnas were not as smooth as I'd like. Feathers were super sharp, but not all that smooth, and dull really quickly.

    Regards.

European Gillette Platinums, also known as "Swedish" Gillettes. They have two reviews on B&B, here and here. (The second one incorrectly claims that the reviewed blades are not "Swedish" Gillettes, but they are -- the reviewer is confused by the updated packaging.)

blades are cheap, and even if it aint that attractive, i only have on face.

so i very seldom keep a blade in for more than 3 shaves, unlike in the old days when i would strech a blade out for 3 months.

i use feathers for 3 shave and they are gone, ASR blades, 2 shaves. i could go longer w/ both, but chose not to. SE blades and injectors, one shave.

Well on that Feather blade I am talking about, I got 3 good shaves and the fourth one sucked. But I usually do two passes and that would mean I did 8 passes with that one razor.

When y'all say "3 shaves" does that mean 3 mornings? How many passes do you normally do on one shave (morning)?

3 shaves, 3 passes, so in effect i'm getting 9 shaves w/ a feather and 6 w/ a ASR blade (most generic/store brand double edge).

like i said, my face aint great, and over the years it's less so, but it's the only one i have...

Rough call. It would be a toss up between Red Pack Personna & Feather. But I have yet to try others.

If you're buying, I'd be happy to use Swedes for the rest of my life.

    Ditto that Ouch,
The Swedish Gillettes are my absolute favorites As letterK say's"Smooth and Sharp".
To me, they are as sharp as a Feather, but much kinder to my face.
Only problem is that they are expensive and can only be had through westcoastshaving, at least in the USA. I think I have about 190 of them in my stash right now.
Otherwise, I do like the Crystal blades. Not on a par with the Gillettes, but they give me a comfortable, smooth shave.
Blade life, for me is 5-6 shaves with the Swedes and 3 with the Crystals.
Blade preference is a real subjective thing though.

It's Feathers for me, but I haven't tried as many as most of you have. I've tried Swedes, Astras, Kais, and Merkur, but none of them come close to Feathers.

I have pretty sensitive skin, but the Feathers end up being more smooth because their sharpness eliminates the drag and pull I get from other blades.

Recently I hit a bad red Personna, I was and still am shocked. But they remain my go to DE blades. Derbys are so close I prolly can't tell the difference when blind-tested.

Try the Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow, sharp and smooth.

    Cheers.

Red Personnas. A close second would be Dorco 301's.
