caveat emptor, ebay, again... C&E brush

I purchased from eBay a Crabtree & Evelyn shaving brush, purportedly a best badger, new in box. The pic didn't look like any current C&E offering (currently by Edwin Jagger, right?) but, thinking wishfully, I guessed the brush is a discontinued model.... The text of the listing was a cut-and-paste from the Crabtree & Evelyn catalogue - shoulda given me pause, I suppose.

got the brush - looks suspiciously like boar hair - after soaking it has not bloomed (sorry, I can't show pics...) and it is not especially soft.

There is an identical brush up for sale now as:

Has anyone seen any of these? Knock offs? Counterfeits?

They are not in the C&E catalogue, and a search of the C&E website brings up nothing....

I guess I'd have to ask why you went to ebay for it when you could order it directly from C&E. It is already considered the best inexpensive brush. So a cheaper version is probably just going to be . . . well . . . cheap.
