What's new

What was the last CD you bought?

Honestly, come to think of it, the last time I bought a CD was probably 9 or 10 years ago! A little thing called the internet was becoming real big around that time and right or wrong, there was suddenly a new place to find music, and the rest is history.

It had been several years since I purchased a CD until recently.

I purchased a recently uncovered 1969 concert from the Avalon Ballroom by the Gram Parsons-era Flying Burrito Brothers. This recording had been discovered in the Grateful Dead vaults when the FBB had opened for them.

The other disc was a 1971 show by The Byrds at the Royal Albert Hall in England. Aside from the music, these purchases were made so as to read the liner notes.

Ah yes, the lost art of the liner notes. Pretty much gone forever. Sad.

I have quite a few cds but I've had an ipod so long that acctually buying a cd is a thing of the past for me though I think it may have been a dance music compilation...?

Tending to buy a lot of music on iTunes these days, but if it's something for which I really care about the liner notes or, more importantly, the quality/resolution of the music, I'll still pick up a CD.

Last CD purchase (this past weekend) was Metallica's latest, "Death Magnetic".

I picked up some CDs today. I went to Newbury Comics (Amazon usually can't compete with the price that these guys have on classical) with the intent to pick up something lush and romantic in style that I haven't heard before. After browsing for a bit, I decided on a cycle of Dvořák's symphonies conducted by István Kertész and a CD with Arthur Rubinstein and the Guarneri Quartet playing Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor and Dvořák's Piano Quintet in A Major.

It got me thinking. What do the other members of B&B like to listen to?

My last purchase was a set of John Dowland's works with Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke. I like having a collection of actual CDs. They sound much better than MP3s and it is nice to support artists and orchestras that need that support.

What were the last few CDs you purchased? Did you like them? Did you pick them up on a whim?

Just last week in fact - the complete Bach Box on Brilliant. Figured, at 70¢/disc how can you go wrong - was amazed at the quality of the performances & sound on most of what I've heard so far - mostly new recordings by Baroque specialists on period instruments.

This is the last CD that I bought.

I'm listening to it right now.
I miss Richard Manuel.

I bought the Beatles white album to replace the one that my puppy decided was a chew toy.
Everyone's a critic.

I buy CDs and rip them. Have not got into the habit of buying songs online. The last CD I bought was Schubert - String Quintet, Alban Berg Quartet with Henrich Schiff. Linky.

Electric Six - Flashy
The Subways - All or Nothing
Ben Folds - Way to Normal
Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns

All artists I have albums from so not on a whim. Relatively disappointed with all but the Electric Six one, which I was at first. After about 10 listens I realized I loved it, just like all their older stuff.

Have you listened to it ALL yet? :tongue_sm

Brilliant recordings are often good orchestras back catalogue repacked at a bargain price.

The last CD I bought was Truckstop Diaries by Jason Boland and the Stragglers in August 2007. I was at one his show's and picked it up. Everything else in the last three and half years, I've bought online.
