Default ZERO lather with Mama Bear Lime....

yeah, i have problems making lather with this stuff, i also have Eucalyptus and i can make awesome lather with that.

    HOWEVER.
and this is a big however.

When i first applied the lather, i could tell that it was soupy, i prepared myself for a bad shave.

The razor pulled, the razor skipped and i could feel the razor cutting each hair, it HURT.

    But here's the kicker...

After 3 passes WTG and XTG, I decided to go ATG with this unsatisfactory lather, i was relentless, i was "scrubbing" against the grain all over my face, i was sure i was going to be blazing red and hurting.

Lo and behold there was no razor burn, i could have scrubbed my face all night long with that soupy, watery looking lather and been fine, it was THAT SLICK.

Whats going on here? i'm starting to rethink how lather looks and just rely on how it feels.

I got 8 different MB soaps to me they all lather exactly the same very good, but you are right usually applying a thin layer of a very slick soap out performs a thick layer of not as slick soap.

MB is about as easy to lather as anything I've experienced. It sounds like your water has some anti-lathering minerals and compounds present.

The fact that the shave "hurt" is reason enough to make a proper lather.

It only hurt until i was to the point where to get any smoother i had to go ATG.

I was buffing ATG all over my face and there was NO pain, and NO irritation.

    figure that one out.

When i finally did my final ATG pass i was able to go ATG over my whole face while buffing, I have NEVER been able to do this under my chin or next to my adams apple with other creams or soaps.

Maybe something happened to the soap along the way, i have 3 other Mama Bear soaps that lather awesomely but are not as slick when it comes down to ATG passes

Did i mention that my house has hard water so bad we have to replace ball valve faucets every 5-6 years?
seriously, our water is so hard its like getting hit with BBs out of the showerhead.

Would really hard water effect lather this way?

When I have soupy lather, it’s generally just too much water. If I let it sit for a few minutes, the suds on the side of the mug dry up a bit and the excess water in the soup at the bottom absorbs into the soap cake and a very short round of vigorous scrubbing in the mug makes all good. On the subject of ATG + soup = good shave, I find that if I have small patches that I just can’t get a clean shave on, touch up with water only seems to work better than with the lather. Splash it on quick and shave before it all runs off – thick water if there is such a thing. I just can’t do my whole face like that.

sometimes i get the same results if i want to touch up by only adding water and not lather.
makes me wonder if i should be using less soap and more water????????

Oh yeah...hard water is terrible on lather making and it also lets all that soap scum stick to your razors.

Soft water make a big difference in lather making. It's almost impossible to screw up lather making. Plus you skin stays soft and doesn't dry out nearly as much.
