    Default Blade care overkill

I noticed after pulling a used blade out of the razor, that there was quite a bit of crud that didnt' rinse off the blade. I tried a gentle rinse of the blade with water but didn't rinse away, so I put it in a jar and doused it with scrubbing bubbles, the blade came back remarkably clean. I assume this will remove any soap scum that may form, and I'm going to start dunking my blades in this solution after use. I'm curious to see if this extends the life of the blades an extra shave or 2.

    What's the point?

At an average of $0.15 a blade you are probably going to end up spending more money and time cleaning the things than it would be to replace it. Don't add more work where it isn't necessary.

    Just my thoughts of course

Some of us around here like to clean the blade with alcohol between shaves. It gets rid of the soap scum, and I've found that it helps reduce redness/splotchyness after shaving. However, I have NOT noticed that I get more shaves out of a blade. Cleaning the blade may help with redness/irritation post-shave, but it doesn't affect the blade's sharpness. Here's an earlier thread on the topic.

I always dunk my razor with the blade in it in Barbicide every morning before I shave.

I dunk the head of my razor in alcohol before shaving and after I clean it after shaving.

I keep a jar of 95% ETOH on the counter to dunk the razor into for several minutes before and after a shave. from my experience (but Y**V). If I do this and let the razor dry before shaving to allow the ETOH to evaporate, I get longer life from the blade, a smoother shave, and no irritation to my skin. Swimming the razor in the jar you get rid of particles adhering to the blade and guard. By allowing the alcohol to evaporate you disinfect and sanitize your tool.
